You feel the same emotions, but

you are capable of finding clean clothes,
    a pair of socks,
of sitting down on any chair,
of going to bed without having to take your life in your hands going upstairs,
of inviting someone round who wants to see you and could make you feel less lonely without concern for their opinion or personal safety,
you have more money as you aren't spending it on 'stuff' to fill the hole in your heart.

    You aren't harbouring mould spores,
    dust mites
and various other nasties that can sap your strength and make you or your loved ones unwell.

    You have space to think,
    to adjust,
    acknowledge,
    adapt to the uncomfortable feelings,
as you aren't hemmed in by distractions such as a pile of things over there that are threatening to fall over.

You can find different things to do that can give you pleasure - having a lovely colour on the walls,
finding a beautiful picture, having it framed and putting it on your wall where you can see and appreciate it properly,
going out and starting other activities,
    inviting friends round without worrying,
not stressing about the gas man,

It doesn't solve everything. But it makes the day to day so much better, easier, smoother. Which gives you time and space to deal with the harder stuff.

    Thanks Jo-Jo...:A
  • I liked your post valk_scot. One can never have too much purple.

Charity shopped a couple of books today, some shorts of DS's and a mask he'd worn for fancy dress aeons ago. The cs bags are getting smaller but they're still going out.
  • Hey folks, have had a manic couple of weeks! Nothing changes, no matter how much I chuck or how much I try to get stuff organised it never looks like much has been done! Have given away 2 stuffed big blue idea bags of kids stuff, binned other things but there is just so much stuff to be checked over that I'm not making much headway. And with the weather turning its enough of an effort to actually get the laundry to dry that I'm also getting a backlog of that! I've been working 13 and 12.5 hr shifts over the weekends and have had parent council stuff to do at nights meetings/writing up things, etc!

Hope everyone is well and getting on a bit better than I am in the de-hoarding dept

  • I really must tackle my 'craft boxes'... Oh such treasures in there, hoarded for years and never used.

Steeled myself this week and took some very nice winter clothing to the local hospice shop. I'd packed away a dress (a very lovely Laura Ashley number) that I couldn't bear to wear again, as I wore it for a dear friends funeral in March, but equally I felt bad about getting rid as it was a present from DH. I folded the dress into the bag and drove like a mad woman to the charity shop and handed it over before I could change my mind. I also donated two very lovely, large serving bowls I bought years ago from Debenhams in the sale (spongework fruity border, very sweet) and I hate to confess - used precisely once in the last 15 years...... I actually felt lighter inside as I walked out of the shop. Then, I went to find the grave of my dear friend as I didn't go to the burial, just the funeral service. I don't know if I felt better or worse, to be truthful, standing by her grave marker and leaving a fresh rose from my garden to replace the bunch of almost dead pink asters. But it felt as if milestones had been passed and from now on, things can only get easier. RIP my dear friend M.

Yes, yes you are definitely making progress.

I, however, am undoing my progress. We came back in this afternoon and DH pulled one of the mugs out of the CS section and said, @Oh but you use this one'. So it is now wavering between the cupboard and CS pile. It is so much better when things go straight out after the decision has been made.

How lovely to have roses in your garden that you can use (although sad that you have lost a great friend). My friend has some roses in hers and even when they are going over they are so beautiful.

But that was before you had the nice new matching ones - now you have those you won't be using that one anymore!! :D
  • That's a seriously brilliant post Jojo.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once
  • Ladies,

(Byatt, Jojo, Ginger nutty, Spiky Hedgehog, etc)

My laptop's graphics card has apparently died so trying hard to post on my netbook. ere goes...

You are all so right about the executor's trouble I was so worried about. 90% is almost imagined - I've spoken to the parents and a lot of it I can minimise. Don't think I can avoid it completely - just tough being the eldest sometimes but at least they trust me to organise things for all 3 of us I suppose.

My mum does have some jewellery which may be valuable so perhaps we will get a valuation before we write an inventory. As always, glad for all the help on here everyone, it's difficult sometimes when you think you're getting upset about nothing. Love MSE!
  • Glad to hear that you've been able to ward off a large amount of the inconvenience/hassle long before there's any sign of it approaching, DfS.

Like a bit of preventative medicine. :)

Has anybody here considered Flu jabs yet?
