Had terrible service repeatedly both as the victim and perpetrator, what about you guys?
I told him if he shook my hand I wouldn't press charges and luckily he was just about intelligent enough to understand it was the better of the two options available to him. Obviously I'd have loved to have seen him tasered and handcuffed but not wanting all the legal cr*p and court appearances that would follow it was probably the most satisfactory outcome.0 -
I've had good and bad experiences - when a boyfriend turned into a nutter and started telling me if I was ever unfaithful he would kill me, I broke up with him since I generally find that kind of thing unacceptable.... possessive insanity etc. He turned up at my home, tried to emotionally blackmail me, whined, cried, begged, threatened, cajoled etc, and eventually tried to put his hands on my throat, at which point I kicked him nuts first through the door. I explained all this to the police officer called by a worried friend, who reassured me that he wouldn't arrest me for assault, and promptly slapped a formal warning for harrassment onto the now-repeatedly-telephoning psycho-ex, and explained that one more call would find the police at his flat waiting for him when he got home. The officer was superb, handled all the whining abuse and diffused the situation well. He waited while my brother came to collect me so I didn't ahve to stay at home, and also called me over the next few days to check all was well, and that psycho-ex wasn't being a pest. Couldn't have been nicer.
On the other hand, I've watched a copper scream into the face of a mentally ill person to calm down, causing the bloke to lose what little grip he had on himself and punch a wall. At which point the copper arrested him for disorderly conduct.
I'm glad they're there, and I couldn't do their job for diamonds. It would be nice if the selection process weeded out a few more of the idiots though. Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

I have to say i had a terrible treatment by the police. I made a complaint to the commisioning thing (cant remember what its called) but never got anywhere with it.
Basically i was convicted of harassing an ex girlfriend, which i did, pleased guilty got punished in court. That was all handled perfectly.
Almost a year later i got drunk on xmas eve and texted her "merry christmas" which breached the restraining order. They waited 6 days to report it.
The police stormed my mothers house, woke my critically ill sister looknig for me...
Now i was at home 40 miles away in the address they had on file for me contactable by phone on the number they had for me. I had a 12 month probation sentence so was seeing an officer once a week, who knew as well all my contact details.
My ex said i "sometimes" stayed at my mums on a weekend. So they storm her house. worst off my mother had no knowledge of any of these events before!!
Couldnt believe the unrproffesionalism and brutality of them!0 -
The Police are stupid...I've no time for any of them and wouldn't ever phone them about anything, preferring to deal with it myself.I shot a vein in my neck and coughed up a Quaalude.

Big thumbs up for the two policemen that attended when I was attacked by a brain dead leftie thug who took offence at me exercising my democratic rights and dropping a BNP leaflet through his letterbox. Pity they arrived after he had disposed of his knife though.

You don't really have a right to drop anything through anyone's letterbox and he certainly did not have a right to attack you.
I would have told you to leave my property and take your vile filth with you. If you did not you would be ejected physicaly. Police would not do a thing about that. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

Did they assault you or your mother?
So you broke the law and got punished. You was then handed a restraining order which you breached, and the police came looking to arrest you.
Seems perfectly reasonable and professional to me.0 -

If however you wanted to return the literature I would happily accept it back and post it through another letterbox. If you wanted to throw it in the trash then that's your right too. If however you felt the need to rip it into pieces and throw it in the street then that's littering and against the law.0 -
few of my experiences with police:
stones being thrown at house window - didnt bother coming out.
Brick thrown through window - took them 3 days to turn up so i could get crime number for insurance
car windows smashed - pcso came round quickly
pulled over twice in 2 days driving 2 different cars both for no reason - by the same cop
house burgled - police turned up after 10 mins and dusted for prints
wife parked my car at an angle - police came and told me to move (loved telling the wife)
overall its not great but nothing too bad. better than nothing - just0 -
As with all organisations, some good, some bad.
Just a shame about the hypocracy of some though. We have a PC living in the road behind us. He's a traffic cop - so should know better. But, last weekend he was driving a new motorbike up and down our road with his wife on the back - neither wearing a helmet! A few months ago, we saw him driving up our road with his 6 year old son on his lap operating the steering wheel!
Years ago, I was walking down a road and saw a group of 5/6 OAPs trying the cross the road, a police car was passing and stopped. I thought he was going to help them, but no, he loudly shouted across the road for them not to be so stupid and to walk down a few hundred yards to the pelican crossing. Nice!
We had a burglary a long time ago, police came but didn't show much interest. Apart from the usual stuff like computer, video, etc., there was a unique model railway layout stolen. We put up a reward poster for information and someone told us exactly where our stolen goods were. It took us a lot of effort and several phone calls for the police to show any interest at all, then the usual excuses of lack of resources and lack of evidence to do a search, etc. Eventually, we got through to someone who actually showed an interest, did a check on the address/residents and discovered they had a record for burglary and managed to get a search organised. Virtually all the property recovered which was a good result, but it shouldn't have to be such a hassle - surely it's their job?0 -
If you have a letterbox and no notice saying otherwise I would be inclined to disagree. Implied right of access and all that.
I have a notice saying no cold callers and no canvassers. It also says please close the gate. I think that covers any implied right of access you may previously have held. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett
