Its a power thing, I thought everyone knew that? It gives some blokes some make shift power, that is why many of them go too far and nick people at the drop of a hat just because they can.
Its their fault entirely that everyone hates them.
?Offensive - maybe not, but certainly bizarre! If you were the type of person who was bullied when young, you'd hardly be assertive enough to cope with the yobs, let alone those with little or no morals.
They wouldn't get very far by as you put it 'nick people at the drop of a hat' - CPS seem to drop too many cases as it is!
The point is that not everyone hates them, that's just your perception - and for us to wonder why!I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0 -
I was pulled over once by a police 'road block' as I had a headlight bulb out.
First officer pulled me out the car to show me, then started reading me the riot act on how dangerous it was. I held my hands out and told him to 'cuff me now then'.
Then I had to give my name and address to another three different officers. All for a bloody headlight bulb.
I tapped on the window of a stationary police car, to politely point out their rear light was out (I do it for all vehicles). They were incredibly rude and were threatening to arrest me...0 -

One rule for them and all that.
I once shouted at a passing police car that they never had their seatbelt on. They heard me spun round and chucked me in the back of their car.
They were rather abusive towards me. Idiots!0 -

I also nearly got arrested on the way home from the pub, the local nightclub was on my way home and it was kicking out time so a few police around. I was not far off my 30th birthday so was acutely aware of getting older and said to my friend "They say you're getting old when the policemen look young". The policeman that was nearish me started getting all aggressive with me about what I had said which he had taken as an insult. I explained my motives in saying it and advised him I thought he was over reacting and miss understood. He then started swearing at me and pushing me along with telling me to go home. I was really unimpressed with his behaviour and told him so which made him worse. It took one of his colleagues to talk sense into him to defuse the situation.
I used to play football with a sergeant in the local tsg, the stories he told me about what the police got up to you would not believe.
It's a shame they're not like they used to be where people respected them and were scared of them. Now days they're over aggressive and people have very little respect for them.
They do a hard job, but sometimes they need to take a deep breath before acting as a lot of them treat everyone as if they are some hardened criminal.
I got a ticket for driving through Hyde Park in a Van, there was a police road block to catch vans. It was an honest mistake and I apologised. The policeman was incredibly polite, explained he had to ticket all vans which I understood. He was a credit to the Met and even wished me a good day (Not sarcastically), I nearly wrote a letter to his superiors but never got around to it.
I know not all police behave badly, but the ones that do should realise that it's this impression that is left on the general public0 -
This bloke had a very bad experience:

I've had generally good service from the police. I called the police when my neighbour threw a canister of something flammable at my window, they came out a couple of days later and took a complaint.
I called when my neighbours' cars were being interfered with, the thief had left by the time I'd called but they at least came about 20 minutes later and had a drive around the estate.
I also called when some drunk was dismantling some road works; it did take them 1 1/2 hours to come and by that time all they could do was put the traffic lights back. But it was a Friday night and I imagine they're busy.0 -
I've only had one experience with the police and I found them perfectly helpful. One Saturday night out I was unlucky enough to have my drink spiked, cue a very unstable kimminess who dropped her bag containing mobile phone and bank card etc. - all the lifelines of a teenager! The police found my bag and contacted my parents by looking through the phone book to let them know they had found it and would drop it round tomorrow. A lovely female PO came round the next day and I was lucky enough to get my things back!

I'm still struggling to understand that amount of posts slating the police, ambulance and fire services.
If you don't like them, go live in a country where 'they' are not an option and you can pay £50 to get out of a bad situation. Or someone badder than you can be £100 to have you stuck in there unless you can come up with £150.
I hope one of you who 'hates the police' get broken into. I dare you not to call the police! Because lets face it, you would wouldn't you!
At the end of the day, they provide a service that many people find helpful and gives a sense of security. When the riots happened, it showed that many people could rebel and there was very little we could do about it. I would of quite liked them to all of been gunned down in honesty, but hey, human rights and all that shiz.
But you know what? I for one am VERY grateful the police are there. I also understand that they are trying to be there for every other person in the country, and its too far stretched. If my taxes went up a bit to help out the ambulance, fire and police, I would happily pay it! I resent paying for chavs to pop out 5 kids because they can't (won't) get a job though.
Why on earth do some people think they have the right to slag off such a much needed service? People moan about the NHS, but who do they go to when in pain or need a doctor?
Some people in a America can't afford medical treatment. Some even die because of it. I know for a fact, whatever is wrong with me, I can go to a clean hospital with qualified doctors who will try to help me and hopefully cure/ease whatever it is. Ambulance drivers turn up when you've fallen and broken your leg or can't get out the house. Who else would? If I called my GP and told him I was in pain and couldn't get to the doctors, I know for a fact he would make me call an ambulance because he's lazy. Very lazy.
Theres a burning house with a child in it who is unlikely to be alive. Most would stand back and call the firemen. After all, there 'trained' right?
When you come home and your doors kicked in and everythings messed up, again, who do you call? It ain't your mate at work is it!!
I think some peoples attitude to the emergency services is disgusting, and I for one hope, when in real need, Karma comes back on you.0 -
