We have a community police station about 100 yards away full of coppers and fast cars.
So it's very common knowledge nobody ever does anything wrong round here, other than the odd burglar who drove in looking for trouble, then end up baffled why half a dozen cop cars and 3 armed response vehicles turn up before they are even up the drive.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I have been involved with the Occupy protests over the last six months or so. The policing we have received from the local force (in Exeter) has on the whole been excellent: they have provided protection when needed, prevented things from getting out of hand, and always acted sensitively and with humour. OTOH from time to time we have been visited by 'pigs' from the Metropolitan police, who can only be described as vicious manipulative thugs. Sadly, the good local cops are the ones likely to lose their jobs, while the politicised thugs will probably get pay rises.0

I think it depends on where you live - and what their priorities are.
When I used to live in BirmingHELL we had extremely poor service. One night I looked out of the window to see the local chavs knocking down my elderly neighbours garden wall, I called the police and they told me that because it was not my wall they could not do anything about it and would not attend!!
I told the kind lady that she was talking cobblers but that still had no effect.
That is just one example of the few times we had to call the police in the west mids - shocking, terrible service (ie none) every single time.
When we moved to staffordshire it was like a different planet. We had to call them once, they came out within 3 minutes and dealt with the problem. Then they came round and knocked the door the next day to check everything was ok.
Absolute night and day.
I totally understand that the west mids police are very overstretched, they have a huge gang / gun culture problem to deal with, but as statistics prove, if you deal with the small stuff you get less of the big stuff!
So praise for Staffs, and Grrr for west mids.
I had to thank your post just because you called it "BirmingHELL"; thought I was the only one.
Unfortunately I've only known poor experience of my local police force (but then again, I've only had two experiences of them). The first time I rang 999 I was 18 and alone closing the Subway in which I worked. We keep only one light on when we're cleaning and doing End of Day but some people get confused and insist in banging on the doors at the early hours of the morning. Anyway, I was on my own closing the shop when I heard some banging on the doors. As I walked over to the doors one of them smashed the glass door with a bat or something and I was obviously scared s***less. Thankfully they saw me and sped off (even though I'm no threat in the slightest).
Anyway, I was in a state of panic and shock and thought my boss was going to kill me when he found out. I called 999 crying and they put me through to the local police station. I explained what had happened and they quoted me a number. "That's your incident number, give that to your insurance," I was told. When I asked if anyone would come out because I'm 18, female, alone and scared in a open shop with money inside, they told me no.
Obviously I was furious but too upset to say anything. Thankfully the people living above the shop called the police and they came out straight away (and the guys from upstairs came to calm me down too).
It disgusts me the way some police officers are treated, my partner and I watch those police shows all the time and I certainly wouldn't be able to hold back smashing the idiot's face on the bonnet like they do.0 -
In my experience... some are sound, some are nobheads. Same as every profession. Mostly they are ok provided you are respectful to them.0

in the 90's I lived in a flat.
their was a 80+ year old woman living a couple of floors down and a guy next door to her was playing obscenely loud music at 2.30am.
I called the police to advise them of the situation and within an hour the music went off.
The next think I knew the guy who had played the music came up the two floors banging on my door threatening me.
This guy did not know me and their were flats above, below and either side of him - the police had obviously told him i called!?!
Those were in the days when I was naive and a lot younger and just imagine if this was a more serious case.
I'd recommend NOT giving your name or address if you need to call them - you DO NOT NEED TO!
They have your telephone number recorded when you call so can trace you if really needed.PLAY GOOD!

Nope, never once had any bad experiences with the Police, just like the Fire Brigade, I have no complaints whatsoever in what they do.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

Most of the time great but did see a guy who had been glassed when I was on a night out. Me and my friend took him to the police station (closest place that was open) and when I rang the buzzer and explained I'd need a 1st aider or at least a few bandages as I was a 1st aider and an ambulance I was told the police station was shut to the public at night and I should ring 999 instead.
Luckily Tescos (a minute away) helped bandage him up whilst the ambulance was on its waySmile and be happy, things can usually get worse!0 -
Personally, the police have never been of any use to me whatsoever other than today actually. I called them because of a noisy chav behind my house screaming and shouting profanities for no apparent reason when I was trying to work and they said they would send someone out. i got a call 20 mins later from a nice lady CSO who, after asking a few questions, said they would visit the house of the person in question as they have numerous complaints in the past and knew who I was talking about. Bottom line is, no more noise since then so good on her. It does seem to be the male coppers that are !!!!!!s.
It certainly is not a job of any type of good standing so I am bewildered why the male coppers walk around like they are better than everyone else. Its a !!!! job that happens to have a half decent salary.
i guess it gives makeshift power to losers who were always bullied a kids0 -
