Surely you dont believe everything you read in the media, and that BT deliberately rip their customers off.
Anyway whats that got to do with BT being cheaper then the Post Office. In case you havent noticed this is a money saving forum.:D0 -
I'm not sure whether it'll reassure anyone but, having either online only or online/paper billing from BT, bills are available to view online (even if Royal Mail is on strike) 14 days before payment is called - plenty of time to phone up and discuss anything you don't understand/want to dispute.
In any case, I'm not sure I'd put too much trust in any Post Office Homephone leaflets or salespeople now (see HERE).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Oh thanks for that, I had never heard of it before, so better sort out a d d, hm. I cannot understand if you can pay over the net why you have to pay for a d d, surely its cheaper for them if we pay straight away over the net by credit card? (unless they have to pay a hefty sum to the cc bank!)
Again look at my post:
BT Direct Debit, How To Beat It

I too pay my bt bill online and immediately - there can't possibly be any cost or effort to bt for this. I have paid my bill today minus the £4.50 charge and sent them an email letting them know what I have done and WHY. I have also put in a complaint to BT and complained to WWW.OFCOM.ORG.UK WHO ARE ACTUALLY REVIEWING THE SITUATION BECAUSE OF COMPLAINTS RECEIVED. SUGGEST WE ALL GO ON THE WEBSITE TO DO THE SAME. If BT want their accounts settled monthly - then bill us monthly - no problem with that.0

BT say they are making this charge, along with a lot of other companies. When I asked which ones, the only company they could quote was Virgin Media (he said they charge £5 per month). We are with Virgin Media - we pay monthly by credit card and HE'S WRONG.0

Many other Telcos simply don't let you pay any other way than Direct Debit.
When you say you pay monthly by credit card, I hope you mean you phone in each month to pay and you don't have it automatically debited on your card each month as CPA (CCCA) has no guarantees like DD, with DD you can tell your bank to cancel the DD and if money is taken out when it should you get it refunded with any charge incurred, with CPA (CCCA) you are at the mercy of the company taking the payment, they can still take payment and you be liable for it even if you cancel your credit card. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -

The following text is taken from Virgin Medias FAQ's for new customers - "
Ways to pay and your bill
Which ways can I pay?
When you order online, you'll set up a Direct Debit with us. It's the easiest way to pay - and the cheapest, too. And you'll save £5 on payment handling fees if you pay by direct debit. But there are other ways to pay, including by credit or debit card, cheque and by PayPoint at your local post office or bank, and you can choose these if set up your services by phone. Remember that, if you pay by any other method other than Direct Debit, Virgin Media Payments will charge a monthly £5 charge for the payment handling services it provides to you. "
Post Office charge an extra quid per monthIf saved £2710 and only spent the interest (Based on a return of 5%), you would have enough money to pay your TV Licence every year. Saving you £7452.50 over a period of 55 years, based on you buying a license from the age of 20 until your 75 at a cost of £135.50.0 -
I didn't make myself clear. We have been with what was Virgin Net now Vigin Media (as our internet service provider) for many years. We now have one of their "bundle" packages which gives free evg. and weekend calls. We pay monthly by cc and we are not charged ANY AMOUNT for payment by this method.0

The Post Office, Talk Talk, Orange, Virgin Media (Cable) , Euphony etc etc all charge more if you dont pay by DD. Some suppliers want even accept you if you dont pay by dd or ccca.
Why are you objecting now, you have been paying BT extra to pay by non dd methods for years now. All they have done is increased it by 50p a month. £1.50p instead of £1,and presented it in a different way.0
