Nothing. The 'typical' British attitude towards immigrants is one of a long list of things I find distasteful about living here. If people want to cut immigration further they can find a way to fund it themselves and I'll find somewhere else to live :)
It's a shame but people still think that the old british empire still exists and Britain rules the world. Unfortunately most immigrants are better qualified to do most better jobs than the natives. Sad but true.

People don't want immigration to rebalance the ratio of young workers to pensioners, but they're also not willing, or in most cases able, to pay the required increases in taxation for that to be that case.

Not to mention the wider economic disaster of a shrinking percentage of workers having to maintain the infrastructure of the nation.

So how much more are YOU willing to pay. (Graham, especially you)

We could stop paying millions of people to sit at home for a start. Stop doing that and watch the unemployment figures magically drop.

Emigration will become a problem if one of the highest taxed areas tried to tax more.

France takes 50% of GDP as tax as opposed to Britain which pays around 41% at the moment I think. Doesn't seem to have really resulted in an emigration crisis (notwithstanding the fact that there are apparently 300,000 French in London now).

Never quite sure why people say we need immigration. We don't need immigration, just we need people with the right attitude to work ... sort that and theres more than enough for us all......

Where's the 'abolish national insurance and let people be responsible for their own pension provision' option?

Why with 3 million unemployed do we need immigration for low skilled jobs?

Most of the immigrant workers I come into contact with are low skilled, such as care sector, catering, labouring etc.

This debating house prieces forum is better than the tv. You lot really go for it don't you? It's more interesting than the gardening forum anyway. it's a bit like watching a pub brawl develop in slow motion but without the blood.

    It would indeed.

    As would mass euthanasia.

But neither of them are likely to be socially acceptable.

I'd vote for euthanasia. Perfectly acceptable to me.
