Why with 3 million unemployed do we need immigration for low skilled jobs?
Because the immigrants are prepared to do the lower skilled jobs for lower pay than the 3 million unemployed are, and there is no mechanism to force the 3 million unemployed to do the work. When the government make some attempts to compel unemployed to work, everyone went mental and said it was "slave labour".
What are the alternatives? Reform the benefits system to withdraw all support after a few months? Where does that leave those who genuinely cannot get a job in that time period?0 -
We do have immigration of highly skilled workers but it doesn't get the headlines that the Daily Mail and Daily Express readers crave...Thrugelmir wrote: »We need the immigration of high skilled workers. In order improve matters.0 -

I would suspect that was a very small but vocal minority.0 -

What's the biggest example of forcing people to work?
There isn't really one, the govt made some steps in that direction which didnt really amount to people actually being forced to work I.e. all that workfare crap but as far as I could tell only a small number of people ever participated before the media outrage caused pretty much all employers to withdraw from the scheme. May still be running for all I know.0 -

Americans have track record for engineering and commercial ambitions. Let's attract them.
The Americans have a track record of attracting immigrants, which is a very big part of why they're so successful.
From the plaque on the statue of liberty.....
"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore,
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,"
The reason I bet on America to remain the dominant power of the next century, is because unlike Germany, Japan and China, America is forecast to remain in population growth.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”
