Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

I have tried three times to register with 1899, only to
be told to re-apply in six weeks time.
How long do you have to keep re-applying?
I go through the same procedure only to fall at the last hurdle, with an e-mail asking me to re-apply.0 -

Go back in and register using your mobile number, once you get the email confirming your registration (which you will get
) then log in and add in your landline number

has anyone had the same problem with above providers as me?i changed my credit card details online to both these providers.soon after my newc/card details were sent both call18866/call1899 sent me a bill for the existing amount.Payment was not due for another two weeks.What happened next was that my credit card company phoned to ask about 18866 were they genuine.I said say yes first class.They then allowed payment to be taken.Except when i went online and phone there was a message from both companies saying my telephone account was now blocked until i paid the bill of £1.56 to 18866.Company 1899 had got their money but still blocked my phone line to them because they believed i owed money to 18866.No matter how many emails i have sent to both companies THEY WILL NOT UNBLOCK MY LINES UNTIL PAYMENT IS MADE.Yet all 18866 has to do is request payment from credit card as before.But they will not do this.They instead wish me to pay by an alternative method.So beware! If your credit card does a security check on you as your phone bill amounts are so small YOU WILL HAVE GREAT DIFFICULTY IN GETTING 18866/1899 TO RECONNECT YOU.One good thing though my credit card company has credited me with £20 for my troubles.0

Excuse my ignorance but I've just moved into my own house so this is all new to me. I would like to know if I can do the following:
Get line rental from BT (£10.50)
Get Broadband from Tiscali (£14.99)
Get Tiscali weekend extra for free
Use 18866 for all other landline weekday calls
We'll be using our mobiles to call other mobiles.
The thing I dont understand is, if I make a call at the weekend how do I make sure that I get it for free from Tiscali and not from BT at their rates?? (I can see how it works with the 18866 predial)
I'm sure that technology is way ahead of me here but would just like someone to clarify it for me please...0 -
If you use PIPEX as your broadband provider (I do & would recommend them although they are not the cheapest), they are also offering 50 Hrs per month of local & national phone calls for £4.99, which seems pretty good to me.
The mobile prices don't look too bad either, except at weekends where they are dearer than my current provider (Talk Talk).

I'm holding off trying it for a bit as it's a new service and therefore could be subject to teething problems initially.
Maybe someone else can spot a downside I've missed (e.g I didn't look at International call rates as I almost never make international calls)
I haven't compared the following charges either:
0845 = 4.4ppm peak 1.8ppm off peak & weekend
0870 = 7.4ppm peak 4.5ppm off peak & weekend0 -
The downside, in my opinion, is you are paying a fiver a month for 50 hours of calls that you may or not make whereas I would rather pay https://www.call18866.co.uk 0p per minute with 2p connection charge for the calls that I do make. Which means each call can last as long as I like for 2p.

Has anyone looked into combined deals - as a recent convert to broadband (we live in middle of nowhere!) I have been seaching for decent deals all in. I use eclipse internet for broadband (not the cheapest but superb service) and they are providing all in landline calls for £5.99/month - it is an offer but the price dos not jump in 12 months like talktalk / BT offers. Has anyone else seen any better offers??0

Same answer as my post above yours really except this time you are paying nearly £6 a month for calls you may not make every month.
Best answer is to sign up for https://www.call18866.co.uk for 0p per minute with 2p connection charge then you are only paying for the calls you actually make.

I'm sure you did a quick mental calculation there but, if you didn't, £6 would pay for 300 calls a month (10 a day, every day) from a BT landline on 18866 @ 2p per call.Edinburghlass wrote:Same answer as my post above yours really except this time you are paying nearly £6 a month for calls you may not make every month.

How many calls do you make from your home landline when you're away in holiday?Their - possessive pronoun (owned by them e.g. "They locked their car").
They're - colloquial/abbreviated version of 'They are'
There - noun (location other than here e.g. "You can buy groceries there") OR adverb (in or at that place e.g. "They have lived there for years") OR adverb (to or towards that place e.g. "Go there at noon") OR adverb (in that matter e.g. " I agree with you there").0
