Hi, Question for martin. I use Euphony for all my calls and get free local and national calls unlimited for £10 per month. I also have a mobile call package of 200 mins for £15.62 plus vat. this works out about 9p per min. Although I am looking to see if I can save money on phoning mobile, i dont want any hassle, i am too busy.
I have had Onetel call today trying to get my bank details for a service I have not yet decided to take. Real hard sell, I dont care how cheap they are!!!!something missing0 -
Not quite sure what the question is that you are asking but when you say you have free local and national calls for £10 a month, that is not free calls

It is in fact £120 a year for calls that you may or not make. My annual bill with my CPS giving free w/end and evening calls is about £3 and my annual bill with 18866 is approx £30 and that includes a weekly call to NZ.
Websites to check are
https://www.call18866.co.uk
https://www.call1899.co.uk

Even if you were to stay with Euphony for your landline calls at the moment, you should ask to switch to EUTalk which gives you exactly the same as what you have got for £7.25p a month, not £10.A saving of £33 a year.
However is it really what you want. Are you such a high user? Compared to 18866 you would have to be making about 12 calls a day ,every day,to benefit even at £7.25p a month.
On the mobile front you would probaly be better off using 1899 10p peak.3p weekends.(3p connecton charge)including vat.Because you will then only pay for what you use.Eg you want pay whilst on Holiday!!!PF.0 -
To reply to Edinburghlass's comment about paying £5 a month for calls you may not make:
I agree if you are not in the habit of making lots of calls, but if you are, it's a different viewpoint. I had a look at https://www.call18866.co.uk and notice they are quoting .5p a minute to UK fixed lines as well as the connection charge rather than the 0p you mention. Lets see 50 Hrs is 3000 minutes, so I make that £15 + connection charges for the same amount of calls!
Also the weekday calls to mobiles are significantly dearer than pipex.0 -
Says 0p per minute to me on the website and also on the announcement when I place a call. All I am charged is 2p per call

It is indeed 0p/min. You pay 2p for the call even if it lasts 3000 minutes. :jhenryvii wrote:To reply to Edinburghlass's comment about paying £5 a month for calls you may not make:

1.The Charges of 0.5p only apply if you are using the 0808/0207 mobile/cable access no.If you use the 18866 no its FREE to talk as long as you like(All you pay is 2p connection per call)as i have pointed out before, you would have to be a very heavy user of a residential landline to benefit from one of these inclusive packages, compared to 18866.
2.The Peak and Weekend Rates to Mobiles are clearly cheaper on 18866,as is the Evening rate to 3.
3.18866 have cheaper Intl Rates then Pipex.
4.Pipex is only available to Pipex Broadband Customers!!!PF.0 -
I currently have a BT line and use Virgin for broadband. I am considering making calls via 1899 & 118866 (as I've threatened BT with taking my custome elsewhere (!) due to ongoing billing problems - but now realise I should keep the line). This might be a thick question but if I set up 1899/118866 accounts will this interfere with my broad band access?0

Welcome to the Telephone Boards
Firstly and most important its 18866 and not 118866 as that particular number is a very expensive directory enquires number!
To use both www.call1899.co.uk and www.call18866.co.uk you need to make sure your BT account is option1 paying just the basic line rental at £10.50 per month if you pay by dd.
All this means is that your calls will go through either of those companies provided you use the appropriate number before dialing and won't affect your broadband in any way.
Just today 18866 have increased their connection charge to 3p per call so at the moment it means there is no difference between 1899 and 18866 for geographical UK calls.
Just ask if you have any more questions regarding this

Thanks, I knew I'd got the numbers wrong somehow! yeah it's BT option1, I'll get that sorted then.Do you find Virgin Broadband best, seems cheap enough, always seems to work ok and I think we're not tied in to anything more than 1 month notice?0
