I have read onetel are 50p cheaper but are there any other line providers out there that may workout cheaper ??

Edinburghglass does say if you are keeping your line rental with BT! £10.50p is the cheapest.
There are a number of cheaper suppliers but the many disadvantages of moving your line rental from Bt have been discussed on this site a number of times already.

For example. BT do not charge for Caller Display any more. That used to be £1.75/month.

Therefore, any other 'line supplier' (all of whom are just re-selling BT's product anyway) must, IMHO, be (a lot) cheaper than BT AND provide free Caller Display.

Caller display, ring back, answer machine sevices don't bother me I never use them. All I want is basic line at the cheapest price. Is there some where which lists the possible suppliers.

Every phone call supplier along with their dogs are now supplying line rental, Tesco, TalkTalk, Onetel, Post Office etc etc but the price is only 50p per month cheaper than BT and what you need to remember is BT is still supplying the line and therefore if you have any problems with your line you need to get in touch with your supplier who then need to contact BT. Now if you are BT whose line would you be fixing first? Also BT will compensate if your line is faulty, will other companies do this?

If you decide to go down this route, check out the T&C's very carefully as to the above and if you are allowed to use another company to carry your calls.

Thanks for the info, 50p is not really worth it (£6.00) for the risk and hassle

Note that the call is only free (apart from connection charge, now 3p) if your landline is supplied by BT. As a cable customer (Telewest) I pay 0.5p per minute as well.
