  • I expect this has been asked loads of times (tried to do a search but got lost sorry!).

I have five ripe bananas that are heading for the bin, unless someone can help me out with a very easy recipe - that is not too sweet. I cannot stand the things, but OH loves them when they are not too ripe.

    Thanks for your help

    Hi claireski,

There is an earler thread that should give you lots of ideas so I'll add your post to it to keep all the replies together.

If you decide to freeze them my advice would be to take the skins off first. I have left the skins on previously and ended up with a horrible mess trying to peel or squidge the fruit out

I've lots of banana's that are close to going over. I know i can make cakes with them, but what else can i do? i don't want to throw them in the compost bin.
  • You could freeze them. They work just as well in cakes once they're defrosted, although they do go a bit squidgy.

cooked banana is nice with hm natural yogurt. you can either pierce them wrap them in foil and bake in the oven until soft, or you can pierce one, pop it on a plate and microwave for 1 minute 30 secs. My daughter loves them like this.
You can add them to jam bread and butter pudding. Slice and butter some bread. spread with jam, then layer with banana slices in between, pour over some custard, i used 2 packets of basic custard power, then bake in the over for about 30 minutes. Yummy
It's the start of the no takeaway challenge.
  • You can also bake them in foil in the oven with some of that chocolate ice cream sauce on the top.

A really old fashioned idea is banana custard, although they have to be reasonably firm, unfortunately. Make up a pint of thick custard from powder. Slice 2 bananas thickly into individual dishes or a trifle dish. Wait until custard is fairly cool then pour over bananas. Can top with cream or dream topping and sprinkles if required.
  • You could put them in a smoothie.
