    Hiya,

I found that this happened when I didn't mash/mix the banana in properly.

The gooeyness is only the banana and shouldn't give anyone a sore tummy.

  • Hi all,

I've recently joined this group and have been inspired by your wise ways! I have just bought some microfibre cloths, stardrops and vinegar! I still have some questions though...

    1) I've got loads of bananas which need eating up. Any ideas what to do with them?

    2) How much vinegar do I put in to de-gunk my washing machine?

    3) Can microfibre cloths be used on LCD tv/computer screens?

    Thanks,

    Mariam

    Hi sleepybookworm,

    Welcome. :)

This thread should help with the bananas: banana glut

I fill the powder compartment with vinegar and put it on a hot wash to clean the washing machine. There are more ideas on these threads:

When we have lots of bananas (when they're on sale), we make lots of banana bread and freeze it. We also peel some bananas, cut them into chunks, and freeze them in freezer bags. Then when we want a fruit smoothie, we pop a few chunks of frozen banana, cranberry juice, vanilla yoghurt, and some strawberries or any other fruit that looks good into the blender and whiz it up. Very tasty!

I'm not sure about the cleaning part, but we do use white vinegar instead of fabric softener in the washer.

How about a nice banana custard - lovely & warming pud on a chilly day like today
I use diluted stardops on a damp microfibre cloth to clean my tv & monitor - just wish I could persuade work to do the same thing, they screen wipes they get are totally useless!
When I clean the washing machine (not often enough these days) I pull the powder drawer out of the machine & wash it in the sink & after replacing it I do a 'boil' wash with either stardrops or vinegar straight in the drum
I THINK is a whole sentence, not a replacement for I Know

  • Thanks for the tips. I now have lots of bananas wrapped in clingfilm in the freezer. We're all far too excited about trying them! We don't get out much - lol.

I've got some bananas left over and they are virtually walking out the door!
I was wondering if anyone had any recipe ideas for using these up? ;) Thanks!

Any banana cake recipe is best with V ripe bananas. Just normal banana bread goes down very well in our house, or I use the weetabix cake recipe from os, use 1/4 of the sugar and mash a couple of bananas into the mix which is nice and healthy as the recipe doesn't have any fat, no eggs and very little sugar. Or banana muffins, banana and walnut cake?

Thanks lucasmum - could you send me the links? Especially the no fat and very little sugar one. Fab.

Links?? I can just about post an answer!!lol I will do it the old fashioned typing it out way for you! I'm afraid I can't remember who posted it originally.

    WEETABIX CAKE

    2 crushed weetabix
    1 cup sultanas/raisins
    2 cups self raising flour
    1 cup sugar
    1 cup milk
    1 tsp mixed spice

My variation is 1/4 cup sugar and two mashed bananas. Also just add whatever dried fruit you want, I add cherries sometimes, apricots, mixed fruits and sunflower seeds. On the original thread people used choc chips, anything really.
I tend to bung it in my bread maker to mix and bake but just mix everything together in a bowl.
I use a 6 inch sqaure tin and cook for 45mins/ 1 hr 175 c. The original recipe says 45 mins but it always takes longer.
This is a very dense, bread rather than a light sponge and doesn't rise very much but it is very tasty and filing.
Hope this is OK, if you want any of the other recipes just ask and I will find them from my cook books.
