    Hi yraunaj,

This may not be the sort of thing that you have in mind, but my daugther left home recently to go to uni and I've been typing up recipes for her favourite meals in word to print out and using the digital camera to print step by step pics to make into a personalised cookery book for her. It probably costs about the same as buying a book but Im hoping she'll love it.

There are a couple of good ones in WHsmith's at the moment on offer in Hardback which would be perfect. But i can;t remember what they're called, i spotted them in my lunch break yesterday. There is one full of classic recipes, i think its a Good Housekeeping one.
Sorry that's not really much help is it! But worth having a look in smiths over the weekend if you have a chance there's also a £5 off a £10 spend on hardback books flouting around the boards somewhere as well which should help keep the price down!

A good basic cookbook is Jamie Oliver's new one -Jamie's Ministry of Food.
  • I've taken to trawling second hand book shops and charity shops for cookery books...I've got a nasty habit of buying them, browsing and then not looking at them sooo this week I've spent £4 on Marguerite Patten Perfect Cookery from 1977 which is just fantastic and then today I bought Mary Berry Complete Cookery for £2.95 and The Complete Pies and Tarts book for £3.50...I know I could get books from the library but I just kinda like "owning" them!

I never used to be a Jamie fan, but I enjoyed the ministry of food & I discovered his simple no poncing about (isn't that what he says:D ) recipes are perfect for full time workers.

In you come & you want some good cooking without too much fuss.

His Chicken Tikka Massala (well his recipe & my cooking;) ) need to be tasted to be believed, I've finally made a curry as good as ANY curry house:j

I'm working my way through the Ministry of Food fast.

What Jamie book should I try next?

I like all food, but probably have enough Chinese/Asian/Indian recipes in the ministry of food. Does he do French? I like Italian & English & Mexican? etc:o

Jamie oliver has his own website, there are lots of recipes on there! I would ask your library to get you in some of his books, wont cost you a penny doing it this way!
It's the start of the no takeaway challenge.
