I have a fantastic student cook book which is called "The Really Useful Ultimate Student Cookbook" by Silvana Franco. In fact, any student cook book is great because they contain really filling, tasty, cheap recipes and most good ones will stress the importance of a balanced diet too. Not something you usually think of either! I also find them great if you're not very confident at cooking from scratch as they tend to explain things very simply and don't assume you have all sorts of expensive or fancy equipment.I don't believe and I never did that two wrongs make a right0

I have posted this sooo many times its embarrasing now but I swear by Easycook magazine. It comes out every couple of months and a years worth subscription is £9.99. They have different sections including feeding the kids from school, storecupboard recipes, dinner menus, baking etc. Each recipe gives how long it takes, what it costs, what the calories/fat content are, and each one has a picture so you know what its meant to look like. Next one should be out in about a month and you can pick it up in Tesco, Sainsbury, WHSmith to name a few. Might even still have a few of the current issue about.Mortgage, we're getting there with the end in sight £6587 07/23, otherwise free of the debt thanks to MSE help!0

Can't fault the Dairy Book of Home Cookery.
I have a copy of this that belonged to my Gran (my mum has one already so thats how I ended up with Gran's), I hardly use it for much, but the curry sauce is the best one for leftovers, its so retro-my OH and I regularly have it with leftover lamb/beef/pork, rice and chips for a old skool pub curry night (sometimes its nice not to have authentic curries)

Hi cheap charlie,
There's an earlier thread where other Old Stylers have recommended their favourite recipe cookbooks that should help so I've added your thread to it to keep the replies together. You might want to have a look at some of the threads in The Complete Old Style Book Collection too.

Just wanted to add another vote for the Good Housekeeping cookery book! My mum has an edition which is about 30 years old now and it's endearingly stained and the pages are bulked out by her own recipes taken from magazines and hand written over the years.
It has all the old favourites so is great when you're having a "blonde moment" and can't remember how long to cook such and such for! (I know I do this quite often!) It also has some lovely traditional puddings in.I don't believe and I never did that two wrongs make a right0 -
