As Knuckle has already said you know nothing. BUT I bet you're extremely fit. You must be with all that jumping to conclusions... Oh I forgot, you'l know the COST of everything ever made but not understand one iota about value.

    OP

You've already been given the best advice. Ask for a detailed quote.

Get down off your soapbox and read the whole thread before you open your mouth with personal insults.

Not a single person has said it's good value and the question about if it's the op's problem hasn't been answered.

If I know nothing you certainly know less;);)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

I do hope the OPs loo isn't sat on top of a massive lump of concrete inside the pedestal, as that significantly added to the time it took me to replace my WC (floor no longer flat where old pan removed and part of lump remained making shims difficult etc). Took me several hours just to remove that. Fitting the new pan was a piece of p!ss.

Thats exactly what we don't know and thanks for sharing. Until OP confirms whether or not there are installation issues then nobody is in a position to judge.

VAT is 20% so should be £70 on £350 (£420 total).

If the total is £500 then the price excluding VAT would have been £400.

    ERROR!!

Actually the price excluding VAT (if total was £500) would be £416.67 (rounded up)

Seems to be a lot of experts on bs in here.

Personally wouldnt dream of paying £500 for a toilet fitted. But london is an annomaly to me. Round my way you'd pay sub £100 for the fitting (toilet depending on which you go for £50 - £200) So a max of £300. On concrete floor i would assume there are few problems, id expect it to be fitted in less than an hour.

p.s. op if you still need a toilet give me a shout, ill come from preston to fit you one for £400!;)

Yes but as far as the punter is concerned the ex VAT price is still £ 400 (£ 500 less 20%) if she was quoted £ 500 including VAT which is, of course, the (mathematically daft) way VAT works. Actually I'm not at all convinced that the original quote was anything but "£ 350 plus VAT lady" and all the other figures that have been bandied about on this thread have been generated by those doing the bandying.

    Yep - don't there just.
    So a max of £300.
Which at Preston prices is probably not so far away from £350 in London.

I think you might be wise to stay put actually. :D

You lost me on the VAT bit, dont understand your thinking?!?! Maybe a tradesmen would say £415 ex vat but if a tradesman said to me £400 + vat i would expect to and only pay £480.

I wouldnt pay £300 (i would fit it myself) but if i couldnt for whatever reason, i wouldnt pay more than £200 but understand some people will want a 'better' toilet and a plumber would have a decent margin, so could potnetially pay £300 (would suggest to anyone to get a different quote if it came back that much. o And that would include VAT

And im not far away from min wage, so would easily still make money charging £400 it'd take me 9 hours incl travel, toilet £50, petrol (rough figure probs ott) £130 parts £20-30 so say (at most) £250 costs leaves £150 beats my £60 a day?!?!

No I didn't and yes you do because:
Maybe a tradesmen would say £415 ex vat but if a tradesman said to me £400 + vat i would expect to and only pay £480.
demonstrates that you understand it perfectly. VAT never has been calculated in the same way you would calciulate a margin on cost and never will be because to do so would push prices up too high from a political perspective. Trouble for the gov't is that every time they increase it all they do is accentuate the differential.

As far as the rest of your post is concerned:

    1. We still don't know if there arey installation challenges which you have not considered.
    2. We still don't know what sort of bog the lady has specified so guessing £ 50 is a palpable nonsense.
    3. Your timings are way off. 220 ish miles probably is theoretically 4 hours in each direction but you forget about London traffic once you get here and trying to get away again. Let alone the nausea associated with getting around Birmingham twice in time, fuel and patience. You could easily be 10 - 12 hours driving and get not a jot of work done.
    5. Saying you'll do the job in one hour tops without even seeing it demonstrates either a supreme confidence in your own ability or extraordinary naivety and I can't decide which.:D
    4. You also forget about the congestion charge and ludicrous parking charges we have to deal with down here - thats probably another £ 20 added to cost..

All in all I suspect if you were to take this job your take home wouldn't be far off that which you make at home. If I were you (which I'm not so you can do as you wish) I'd can your numbers as impractical (and largely irrelevant to the OP at this stage), lay off the 'shrooms and stay put as previously suggested. :D

    Cheers
