As my OH has said, you have no idea if the OP is talking about an expensive bog.

They may also have 'forgotten' to mention that, as it is leaking, the floor is rotten and the joists and floor need replacing.
If the floor is solid it may be that the floor has broken up and needs digging up and re-laying as there is no longer any way to drill and fix a new loo.

In a nutshell ....we don't know.

We also don't know the age of the OP's mum and how vulnerable she is in terms of tradespeople giving her huge quotes - my m-i-l will never get a quote from anyone now as she has been seriously fleeced in the past - personally £500 does sound steep but does depend on the circumstances

had full bathroom suite(ok not posh one) tiles wall and floor and cieling with that plastic thingy and few tiles in the kitchen £1420 all in:D
its only a small bathroom but decent job and for the price im not complaning!

above quoted price for the job is very expensive dont care where you live in the country:eek:

Thanks to all of you who have commented so far

Just to provide a little more info..
My mum is a pensioner (although not a very old one!) and she lives in a 1st floor housing association pb flat. The floor is concrete.
She has got one quote for £500 (£350 + VAT) however this person came around yesterday and will prove a full breakdown shortly.
She had a second quote (without this person seeing the job also) for £600 all in.

Unfortunately my mother can be a bit stubborn and will not hear of simply re-affixing the existing toilet, she wants a new one. However, she has listened regarding several quotes and breakdown of costs.

Thank you all for your help so far, I really have no clue about this!

Sounds to me like your mothers being conned?

In the 1st place if its a Housing Association Flat then they are liable for repairs, so contact them.
2nd is that as they are laible then it wont actually be your mothers choice as to what is done!
3rd to the idjit who said use no more nails, well if you want a bodged job, way to go!
