£500 for a new toilet?
Comments

Thanks to all of you who have commented so far
She has got one quote for £500 (£350 + VAT) however this person came around yesterday and will prove a full breakdown shortly.
She had a second quote (without this person seeing the job also) for £600 all in.
Kind regards
How does that work out?
Lose is to not win......Loose is not tight......get it right!0 -
Unless the pan itself has got a crack in it the leak has got to be coming from either the outlet at the back or where the cistern joins. So either way before buying a new loo check the seals here and you may only need a washer. Wobbling ? Check where the loo is screwed to the floor and replace the screws if one has come loose.
The wobble has probably loosened one of the joints to cause the leak.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

VAT is 20% so should be £70 on £350 (£420 total).
If the total is £500 then the price excluding VAT would have been £400.
That aside, she needs to ask the plumber which toilet (make/model) they are providing. You can then at least look it up online to see how much it is.
As others have said, toilets vary MASSIVELY in price. And quality. We got a cheap one for our downstairs loo and better ones for our bathroom and en-suite. You can certainly tell the difference.0 -

Is the right answer.
Oh and a good dollop of no-more-nails would be useful into the existing screw holes before re-fixing the loo down.
I don't care how useless the OP thinks they are, it really is a simple fix, go see your mum and do it for her.

No it wouldn't, if the holes need tightening up a 2 pack epoxy filler minimum is the way to go.
But all this seems irelevant now the full facts have emerged, ie, the repair is not the responsibility, liability or even perogative of the OPs mother, it appears to rest elsewhere.
And it has to be said that if £500 is available for a job that someone else should pay for then the post is not one for a money saving expert forum, more money wasting expert;);)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
and based on the information provided by OP we have no idea that thats not actually the case - so it swings both ways.cyclonebri1 wrote: »Based on the info given by the op, ie, no indication of installation issues and no gold plated seat reqd it IS too expensive,

Oh good grief - what a moronic suggestion. Tell me how do you feel if when the thing collapses, cracks and mum ends up needing 50 stitches in a large gash in her bum down at the local A&E? Whats even more frightening is that two people have actually thanked you for this piece of abject nonsense.a half tube of no nails should have everything tickety boo by morning
Somehow I don't believe you I'm sorry to say.my no nails was a joke
No it wouldn't. A good idea would be to fix the reason why its wobbling first.martinthebandit wrote: »Oh and a good dollop of no-more-nails would be useful into the existing screw holes before re-fixing the loo down.

As Knuckle has already said you know nothing. BUT I bet you're extremely fit. You must be with all that jumping to conclusions... Oh I forgot, you'l know the COST of everything ever made but not understand one iota about value.
OP
You've already been given the best advice. Ask for a detailed quote. All together now, "Always look on the bright side of life..." :whistle:0
