Tenth Anniversary Combo Breaker Mortgage-free Glee!
Good for Martin, I would have done the same thing. I will continue to use the site, if it changes such that I find it unusable or worthless, then I will stop using it. I will continue to look elsewhere as I have always done. Thanks MSE Martin for what you have helped to create.

Love the comments on here, soooo many displeased folks having to announce their departure from the website.Just don't come back if you are that disgusted/displeased/jealous,nobody is forcing you to stay!

I'm not bothered who Martin sold the website too or for how much,I'm very glad he didn't decide one day to pull the plug on the whole thing.

Think you gotta ask yourselves how much have you personally saved by coming on this website? Instead of being drama queens with your dramatic flounces and whining like a 2 year old who can't get their own way.

This is the Internet people, get off your backsides and sort your own lives out before tying that noose for Martin.

The site had revenues of £16 million last year (almost £10 million of which came from its new owner). In what parallel Universe do you live where the owner of something bringing in £16 million per year would pull the plug on his enterprise??

Indeed, why pull the plug when the new owner can receive free publicity on the No1 'independent' money saving site.

    2. Is ten million enough for charity?

Not if you think that he is keeping 76

So you donate over 10% of your earnings to charity? Thought not.

Congratulations Martin! I am sure you will continue to battle for the consumer. I have learnt a great deal from your site and it has helped me through difficult times and given me the information I needed not to be taken for a ride.

I really am very happy for you and your family and I believe you will use this fantastic opportunity to do good.

All best wishes and kind regards.

Yet more first time posters complaining about the supposed loss of a forum community that they were never a part of and never ever contributed to.

    Oh the irony.

Think it is quiet sad the the help ideas and tips given are to help real people save money, the knowledge in the forum is massive.

How can anyone take anything Martin says from now on in the spirit it is meant. What will he have in common with Mr Joe average trying to save money or get out of debt.

Well if your Martin you could buy one less Ferrari!

Its difficult to worry about real money saving tips when you have 77 million in the bank!
Happiness, Health and Wealth in that order please!:A

The whole Skimlinks farce has now been exposed for what is was - a shameless moneygrabbing exercise. The whole purpose was to get the site ready for commercialization so that it would be more attractive to a prospective corporate buyer.

MSE Martin tried to make it sound like they were just trying to break even, without disclosing that he was already raking in £16m a year in revenue from the site.

Skimlinks FAQ: Why is this being done?
It comes at a large cost to pay for servers, our forum team, and specialised forum developers. We also have an in-house lawyer, who spends a great deal of time dealing with legal letters arising from posts made by forum users, so that we can continue to allow people to have their say about issues that involve big companies.

Currently, these substantial costs are met by the success of the main site. Hopefully, this move will allow the forum to cover some of its own costs. :rotfl:
I'd encourage everyone to go to their user settings and turn the creepy Skimlinks software off, unless you like your posts being mined for profit.
    To turn skimlinks off
    • Go to your User Control Panel
    • Click “Edit Options” on the left-hand side menu
    • Scroll down to the Miscellaneous Options section
    • Untick the “Turn on Skimlinks” box
