who's taking things at face value I mealy posted what BBC site stated. Do you take Martins comments as face value? do you think this site can remain independent? MS wouldn't buy this site if it wasn't something in it for them thats a fact, MS is a commercial site and makes a profit to its shareholders, basic economics

No, my 'face value' comment wasn't aimed at you, sorry if you misunderstood.
I was just really surprised at the fact that MSE made £16m just from people clicking the links from this site.
I never do. I got the ideas, but then did my own independent research, with the companies mentioned but also others.
So that's what I meant by people accepting "at face value", without any further thinking, everything that was said here on MSE...

Man creates website at his own time and expense.

People use website and lo, they are happy.

    Man sells website.

People who use web site now up in arms and accuse man of selling out.

Is that the basic gist of the conversation in this thread?

Congrats on the baby & the sale Martin.
Man creates website at his own time and expense.

People sign up to mans website with the confidence they will be safe from less trusted sites based on mans explicit say so.

Man sells website AND all those members find themselves signed up to an untrusted rival without their permission.

People who use web site now up in arms as man has sold THEM out.

That's the basic gist of the conversation in this thread.

I don't see it making much real money at the moment...

Some might say it was those with the entitlement complex that earned him the most from all those afiliate links that were clicked by them...

How has he sold anyone out? It's his website? If you feel sold out, leave!

I am however concerned about the possible conflicts of interest that might arise because I don't understand how Money Supermarket will be happy to have links and references to other comparision sites]

The saving grace is that these links bring in £15m revenue a year. The cynic in me says the Editorial Policy is more about reassuring paid-up affiliates than it is site users.

Fair play to him, you can tell a helluva lot of work has gone into this over the years.

Just wish I'd thought of it first! :)
