Well, I had to go to Asda today. Had to buy more milk (for LO's, they need full fat), tomatoes, cucumber, frozen veg, red pepper and lard for making pastry. Total price came to £4.92, so will update my sig in a moment.

Also, had to buy more s/s milk yesterday:confused: . I bought 2 litres on Tuesday, and Tuesday night, DH came home and had 2 great big glasses of milk:eek:   . Needless to say, I sent him to get the milk last night. It can come out of his pocket, along with the money he spent on moisturing bubble bath. I asked him to get bubble bath for the kids, and he came back with Johnsons moisturing bubble bath (2 bottles). Men eh :p .

Today I decided I would make a steak pie, and try my had at making my own pastry. Mrs M was kind enough to give me a recipe for pastry, however, my internet was down, so, I made it from a recipe book (the dinner lady), and it hasnt turned out very well. The pastry was all cracked IYSWIM, and when I was rolling it out, it was all uneven, and quite thin.
I put oven on whilst I was rolling it, then, put it over the pie tin, put it in the oven, but, its sank:confused:.

Hopefully I wont need to go shopping again until at least Monday, if that happens, I will be sooooo pleased.

Don't know if anyone's mentioned it but with Asda home delivery, if they substitute an item it will be of equal or greater quality - but you'll still only be charged for what you ordered. Last week I ordered a £3 free range chicken. They substituted a large chicken which should have been £6.01 but I still only paid £3! Bargain - and the extra chicken lasted us for a couple of lunches at school/work too!

My ma is sending me back to the flat with rice, sweet and sour sauce as well as seaweed so I can make my own sweet and sour veg with rice and seaweed at home for way less than what it would cost to buy a take out chinese as it is chinese new year:j
Thanks for the brilliant idea for tonight's dinner. I had planned liver and bacon, but DS3 has voted in favour of home made spare ribs and sweet and sour chicken with stir fried vegetables. DH has gone out expecting to get home to his favourite meal.:T

    Hello

I'm setting myself a challenge until September. At the moment my food shopping for a family of 4 can be anything from £75 to £100 a week which I feel is way too much. I've just booked a girlie weekend to Toronto in September and my challenge is that I'm going to set a budget of £75 per week. My thoughts are if I can spend anything less than the £75 then the difference goes to my holiday fund.

To do this, I'm planning on making all my family meals, avoid ready made foods but still having plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables.

I usually get my shopping delivered from Tesco's as I seem to spend less as I'm not tempted to buy anything I don't need but after this I'm going to get my fruit and veg from Lidl's and the remaining stuff from Mr T

I'm lucky that I've got a full freezer and cupboards at the moment which I'll try and detail later tonight.

My aim is to make one meal too many each time, freeze it and after a few weeks have a few freezer days (this is what dh and I call the days we eat "ready meals" from the freezer.

    Let the challenge begin !

good luck. How old are your kids? (or how big are there appetites?) The w/e away sounds like a good incentive to keep you on track. Do you follow the monthly GC's?

I'd love to see a list of what you've got then we can suggest meals.

    Hi Cruiksl :)

Perhaps you'd like to join our Grocery Challenge...

Admittedly it's monthly - but the advice and support in it will help you keep on track, and things are always easier to do in bite size pieces too :)

I'm going to add your post into the current challenge.

    Good luck :)

Hi everyone. Spent £3.60 today. Eldest DD cooked tea sausage, chips and mushy peas-followed by pancakes...again!!! lol OH still at work and I'm tired tonight, youngest DD being bullied, think they are jealous coz her 'boyfriend' bought her a giant teddy for valentines, and she got him a large heartshaped chocolate-bless, so some girls-supposed friends 'got her' today. she is complaining her back hurts. No point in going to see ring leaders parents as they don't do anything, she pretty much has a free reign-I'm furious so the school will sort it out-even though it wasn't in school time, this other girl was still in full school uniform. Sorry, that was a bit off topic, but I needed to vent, sorry guys.

Thanks for this. My kids are 3.5 and 16 months and don't have massive appetites. Although my dd is a snacker.

I'm pretty well organised with a slow cooker and a bread maker. So also going to try and use them more especially on days where I'm working or have lots on.

Now off to empty the freezer and find what's lurking there.

Hi Tattycath, so sorry to hear about your daughter. Bullying is just so cruel. I do hope the school sort it out. I'd be up the school day after day until they do........good luck. (If there are any bruises, take photos to show school - just an idea). x
