This month i've challenged myself to make hm jelly and hm custard ie no custard powder and today I bought ox tail to try.

I've done the jelly today using gelatine and smoothie - this was on the yellow sticker shelf at 70p per Litre instead of £2.00. I'll let you know how it goes!!

Is it possible to post the recipe for the jelly?
What kind of smoothie did you use?

    Thanks

Of course - I boughtt some supercook gelatine - about 88p for 6 sachets, with the intention of using it for SPrice apple juice, orange juice etc but innocent smoothies were on whoops at 70p per litre. (bought 2 and froze 1).
Anyway, I just followed instuctions on back of gelatine packet -

I put 1/4 pint of boiling water in a jug and sprinkled on gelatine sachet, when it had all dissolved I made it up to a pint using smoothie then poured into pots and put them into the fridge - 1 pint of this has made six helpings for my little 1's. They loved it too!

    Evening all,

Spent €20.38 today...€5 for 10k bag of potatoes and €15.38 for fresh cod...three of us scoffed it...it was delicious but I would have run a mile only that OH was with me and loves his cod...I rarely buy it because of dwindling stocks...we will be on freezer/cupboard meals for the rest of the week. To-day's spend and what I had already spent since 1st brings my total spend so far to €97.45, so if I can keep the weekend spend to around €50 I will be on target.

    Good luck all

  • Due to everyone coming down with the dreaded lurgy, budget has gone abit off. Doesn't help that meal planning hasn't happened yet. I've gone back to popping into supermarket on a daily basis, plus DH has also been shopping as well. Already spent 1/4 of budget and we're only 6 days in  . Having to post this will hopefully make me pull my finger out (again!) and crack on. On the plus side we have had some good meals over the last few days, healthy and balanced. Now just need to get the combination with budgetting and I'll be competing with Nigella for prefect housewife!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

On a more factual basis, I brought frozen chips and bottle of pop today (DD1 did point out we could make our own chips, but that we would then need to buy potatoes - at least she knows where chips come from!). DH brought his lunch then popped into Morrisons on way home for Calpol and brought their special offers. Off to update signature.

EDIT: Just been on spending diary - £95.97! I thought we were up to about £70. Really need to think through meals!
  • I did the grocery challenge for first time last month and found we spent £372 on food and household stuff....very shocked. As this is for 2 adults 2 kids and a cat only. Going to try harder to save this month so far only spent £30 on food, but freezer running low. I am going to try for £300, the slow shave off approach.
  • At last I got the tesco site to work .Order placed, added some more stuff and total before discounts and bogofs is £88.33(including delivery too),discounts come to about £15 and the best e-code I could find was a code for 250 points. This is the first time I have not been able to find either £10 off or 1000 points.
I went via UshopUcare and got £5.00 for registering and will get 5% cashback on my grocery shop too.
I didnt know anyone did cashback on groceries, glad I found this today.

Heres my shopping list for 4 weeks.I already have some bits left(not much) and have still to buy milk and bread every couple of days and dog food for the month(£18).

I had to wait up till tesco came back online so I am off to bed now.Nightie night all!

Hiya Folks having spent lunchtime and most of the evening catching up with all your excellent comments and advice I have a few words to say.

CurlyCabbage - so glad for you both. Having suffered from the same sort of thing I can sympathise so much. I eventually had to take early retirement because of the harassment but the S*D got his come uppins as he was forced to resign several months after I retired.

Destiny Star - Love your siggie - hits nail on head.

mummygems - we keep our spuds in a brick outhouse and never had any problems. If they sprout they are still edible.

shelovestobuystuff - re you DH - only you can sort it, so sort it.

swiper - don't let them get away with it. Phone them or send them an angry email - trust me, it will get results.

OK then, trundled down to Tesco Metro yesterday to get veggies, cost around £4.30. Had main grocery delivery today from Mr T and came to £83.19. So total spend to date is £126.72 against a budget for Feb of £215 . Not as bad as it seems as I have enough in to last until the 20th, I hope!!

    Lil_Me - Budget for February is £215.

Good hunting one and all. :)

    Love the FM

Just a quick drop in to the thread to update spends so far.

Had a huge delivery from ASDA that should last the month (if I can just forget where I hid the chocolate, that is :D), spend so far £120.22. This includes two bags of dog food and all the cleaning / toiletries we need for the month, so hopefully it will only be fruit and veg that we will have to buy.

Hope to resist temptation today, but may have to go to Mr T's as moggy will only eat Whiskas O so fishy at mo (and its 1/2 price at Mr T's)

Also can anyone tell me what celeriac tastes like. I've not knowingly had it and all the chefs make mash with it and thought I would try it, but if it tastes leeky I'll give it a miss!

I really like celeriac as mash but tend to mix mine in with normal potato mash - it makes for something different at meals. i have in the past used it chopped into casseroles to add a different flavour also. The taste is not leeky at all nor is it a celery taste - I can't really describe it you'd have to give it a go:D

That wasn't really helpful at all was it!!:rotfl:
