Hello all, beautiful sunny day here and I'm tryin g to keep it as a no spending one. The grocery bill is about the only one I have any control over at the moment, so it is being kept on an extremely short rein. Home cooking and baking has increased, somewhat, and the freezer is filling, rather than emptying, what with all the extras being saved as single servings. DS is also away for a few days and that has saved a small fortune on bread, milk and cheese! Apart from that, all is well and on budget so far as the main shop has been done and the rest of the month is store cupboard cooking and top-up shopping.
Have fun and keep up the good work of frugal shoppingI reserve the right not to spend.

Well....................
This challenge has certainly been an eye opener:eek: :rotfl:
So far I have spent £151.56:o
BUT I still think I can end up in my budget with a bit of effort.
I know it sounds pretty bad so far but I normally don't keep track so would have just kept spending, at least now I can really try for the next few weeks.
I have discovered that when I try to save money I often spend more......Last week before our wages were paid I decided in my wisdom:rolleyes: that we would 'just pop into the local tesco direct for a few bits' BIG mistake lol! £70 of what I have spent was from two trips there and coming away with nothing
So yesterday I had an online shop from Asda delivered which was £80 and should last us at least a week and that was with a huge box of nappies and stocking up on cat food.
So lesson hopefully learned!
I really really hope that I can do better for rest of the month, I'll be so dissapointed in myself if I go over
xxx
Ps I am so in awe of the rest of you on this thread, I hope I can learn to be more like you:beer:0 -

Are you using vouchers to get free delivery from ASDA? If you spend over £50 you can often get a free delivery code from the coupons and codes board, which saves you £4.50. It might therefore work out cheaper to get your Lidl stuff from ASDA.
Also, have you tried making your own curry sauce instead of buying it? Is it a cook in sauce for a curry or chip shop style sauce. It might be cheaper to make it yourself or if its chip shop curry sauce, to buy a tub of granules.
Also, while we are at it, could you make the egg fried rice, garlic mushrooms or puddings yourself? You could have a pudding making day and freeze a few all at once.0 -
Hiya all
I'm doing ok so far, only spent about £12 on milk, bread, fruit, veg etc plus a couple of bits for baking. I'm going to do a proper shop on Friday because we're running low on quite a few things in the storecupboard but i've got a good amount of meat in the freezer as the base for meals, its just the things to go with it that i need. Also we're starting work on our new house at the weekend and OH is getting a few mates to help with taking the kitchen out/ripping carpets up etc so i've to keep them fed and watered too
So £12 spent, £188 left
I think i should manage it this month because i want to use up a lot of stuff in the freezer/cupboard but March will be tougher because i'll have to re-stock everything inc toiletries. Oh well, lets get this month over with first!!!
Good luck everyone

I have to wonder why you are buying grated cheese when it is cheaper to buy it in a block and grate as you need
Dumpling Mix-well what could be easier than adding 4oz Self raising flour to 2oz Suet add water and hey presto dumplings!
Frozen pudds I am assuming are yorkshires.Well they are dead easy just 4oz self raising flour,1egg and 1/2 pint milk all whisked together and left to rest for 1/2hr.Whack the oven on full blast and shove a muffin tin in with a tsp oil in each hole and heat until smoking.Pour batter mix in until half full and bake in the oven on Gas mark 7 or equivalent for about 20 mins or until well risen and brown.
Frozen ready meals - why not make an extra couple of portions of meals like stew etc and freeze ready for lazy days
Choc Biscuits you could substitute Twinks hobnobs and dip them in a little melted chocolate if you want a chocolate hit

hello everybody!
I have challenged myself to have a go at new HM made things every month - last month was bread and sponge puds (for the boys only my bottom is spongy enough!).
And we had wild rabbit casserole ( I didn't like it - meat was too dark) But boys loved it.
This month i've challenged myself to make hm jelly and hm custard ie no custard powder and today I bought ox tail to try.
I've done the jelly today using gelatine and smoothie - this was on the yellow sticker shelf at 70p per Litre instead of £2.00. I'll let you know how it goes!!
What I need now is a recipe for home made custard if anybody knows one? Also does anyone have any ideas of what to do with left over smoothie - apart from drink it lol!
Thanks in advance
