Thank you to all who gave advice re slow cooker.

If we did buy a breadmaker and slow cooker they would be compact ones cause there is only me and OH.

Still undecided about what to do but I will mention to OH the advice that has been given.
We tend use the microwave just for re heating. We remember to take stuff out to defrost.
Mind you if we decided to not replace it and get rid 100% then am sure OH would eventually say that we needed one.

i think we will probably just get compact slow cooker and replace the microwave as well. I'll have to clear cupboards out and find a place for the slow cooker.
OH loves bread but could make by hand if neccessary... get him to do the kneading :D

    Thanks again

Another shop today at morrisons and tesco... £ 43.11 to add to total and 17 days to go until payday.

Can I ask a question please.

All of you who buy bulk of potatoes where do you keep them? I find that I can buy a small bag each week but still end up throwing some out as they are green or smell off? I couldnt imagine having a huge sack to last a month! It doesnt seem to matter where I store them either the same thing happens.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

...i was just feeling proud of myself for still having so much of my grocery budget left... until i realised its probably cos iv had tea at my mums, ate rubbish for tea at the cinema last night, and went out for my workmates birthday lunch today :o

i count unfruggal foods and eating out in my 'fun' budget (i have a 3 category system of food/fun/bills - realised in jan that my 'fun' category included an iron holder and a roasting tin!)

does anyone know much about vegan egg substitute? is it expensive? what can you make/not make with it? im considering(ish) going vegan (maybe):D

i keep potatoes in a kitchen cupboard, which is also always cold as its one of the rooms i don't heat!

i think its important to keep them dark as well...

oh wait or does that make them more likely to sprout cos they think they have been planted?!?:rotfl:

i take all veg out of plastic bags and keep it n a net basket thing to let the air in too

  • My ma couldn't find the egg replacer when she went shopping :rotfl: oh well. Instead my BF went to the flat to get the one in my cupboard. Thankfully my ma and dad had to go that way due to my sisters heating had gone and they are her landlords so had to go sort it out due to the stipulation of tenants have to have heating and everything lol :rotfl: . So that's on its way back now.

vegan egg substatute is rather good. You can get Allergycare Whole Egg Replacer 200g, Ener-G Egg Replacer 454g and Orgran No Egg 200g (equal to 66 eggs) that I know about. I use the first one and it costs me nearly £3 which contains the equivilant to 10 eggs although the orgran no egg is just over £2 most places and as it says is equal to 66 eggs (so it says) so probably more worth it :o . You can use it mostly where ever you need to use eggs I've found. If you do go vegan remember to include an iodine source such as seaweed and remember about B12 as it can be difficult to obtain. Other than that it's amazing and I know my doctor praised me when I went vegan so I'm hoping yours will as it can help. Hope all goes well :j .
I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy :D

Perhaps if I take them out of the plastic bags and put them in something else and keep them in the dark kitchen cupboard with the air vents in that might work? Will give it a go.

Thanks to those who answered my question.

hm, well im not quite ready to make the switch yet! im still at the 'would i still be able to eat cakes' etc stage!

my body started to 'reject' meat (it started to taste strangely wrong) a while ago and i think it is starting to do the same with dairy (???)

oh well it is probably right!

oh wait, what about chocolate, lol :)

hm so orgran would actually be cheaper than eggs?
might give it a go for frugalness if not vegan-ness :)
