  • Hi, thanks for your reply, what I do with the mince is bulk it out with loads of lentils, grated carrots/courgette, tinned tomatoes and whatever veg I've got spare gets chopped up small and bunged in as well. It works out so much cheaper and a lot healthier for us and our little one. I would happily eat it without the meat but OH is a meat lover and this is the compromise!

Hi, thanks for your reply too chicken pie. I also use 3 grated carrots , 2 grated courgettes, 3 tinned toms and 100g of mushrooms per 1 kg of mince. I get 5 spag bol meals out of this. I put the same in my chilli repcipe and add a couple of tins of kidney beans too. This makes 5 meals plus a lunch for 1 person. There's me, OH and 2.5yo DD who is a really good eater. Definately think I need to look at portion control :rotfl: .
  • No spend day for me today (easy though as I have been on nights and in bed all day ;))

Realised its pancake day after reading all your posts so I'll get hubby to make them after the mac cheese. Starting to think it doesn't really go but never mind....

Just update my sig too, spent half of budget already! Where did that go????

  • Spent £26.66 today at Mr M. I really stuck to my list and was surprised it didn't come in less than £20. I got a big sack of potatoes to last me the month though and have just reminded myself that I have at least 10 HM meals ready in the freezer. Next shop is on Friday, I'm gonna see if I can spend no more than £15.

Right, off to make pancakes

You could use white vinegar instead of rinse aid. I do this sometimes, doesn't leave a vinegary smell on things.

Thanks for that, i never got to the shops today in the end so i`ll give it a go, there were about two tablespoons left so i put that in the chamber and i think it will do today.
Tomorrow i`ll put vinegar in and see, all i want is dry dishes lol i hate having to dry them afterwards.

  • I spent £1.63 today on 4 small sausages and half a dozen eggs. I asked the butcher if they were free range and she said yes, but when home I see they say 3-UK, is that free range I thought they should say 1-UK:confused:

update, i've spent £66 of my £100 so i've got to be very carefull but i should only need to spend for bread and fruit so fingers crossed and with some careful planning it will be ok.
  • There's no way I can read all the posts but I'll just note here that I'm in again with a budget for February of £180.

    Hi there,
First time of doing this and aiming for £250 a month, but have already spent £101 and its only the 5th!!!!!

Freezer is full and the meal planning is going really well. It feels great to be more organised and I'm enjoying doing lots of baking and cooking at week-ends to freeze.

I think we are really eating better. Far less chips and junk food. But any tips always appreciated. x
