    Hi Jackie
I've just discovered today a little button at the top left corner of the page, just under the 'post reply' button, it says 'view first unread' and if you click on it you go straight to where you want to be. I can't believe how much time I've been wasting trawling through the pages to find where I last got to![/quote]

    Cheers,

Im so glad, cos I ended up reading and rereading posts again and again to find out what ive read.

  • Had my first shop of the month and spent £37.78. Needed just about everything as we ate the cupboards bare last month.

Got loads of essentials but also some reduced goodies.

    Gammon joint ( half price)
    Turkey mince (1/3 off)
    Aubergine (half price)
    Bratweist sliced (half price)

Lots of BOGOFs on proper foods as opposed to treats. But spent £3.50 ish on herbs and spices. Still, they last ages right... always expensive setting yourself up.

The watering down the milk trick is working superbly. Who would have thought! Thanks fellow posters for that one.

Yesterday, I had to get dishwasher tablets, so, rather than spend the money on the FINISH tablets, I went to Lidl and bought theirs.
Havent used them yet, but, will use them today, are they any good?

So ive spent £2.99. Dont plan on spending anything today, its a day for the house, and im not going out in that snow, but tomorrow, will probably need to buy cold meat for sandwiches during the week, and nappies for LO at night.

A few of you have said about lunches at school, we only pay £5 per week for school lunches, and they get 3 courses for that and a drink. The kids also get water and a piece of fruit too.
I thought all schools did this.

    Hello:hello:

Well I havn't posted on this site in well lets just say too long:o

I have started lurking again and decided to get my act together, and where better to start than this challenge:D

I am going to start with £400 for the month for 2 adults (plus usually my mum too!) and 4 children (one still in nappies),

This seems like a HUGE amount compared with the rest of you:o but it is a very bad habit of ours to spend a LOT on food so I'm hoping by really trying and taking notice if what we're spending I can get it down quite a bit.

    Please wish me luck:D

I dont have a dw but I remember reading no here that people just use half a tablet and get a good result. I think Lidl tablets are good, from what I remember of the threads.

My dgd school had no kitchen facilities so no option for a hot meal. I think you're very lucky to have that option for your kids.;)

Edited to say - I think its a fairly well agreed fact on OS that you can reduce the amount of anything you use for cleaning and still get good results - this includes washing powder, shampoo etc. And watch out for 'concentrated' products. A smart little marketing ploy that is apt to make us use twice as much of a product as we need to!!!
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

    Hello
Had a good shop in Lidl the other day, including cherry tomatoes for 29p! Couldn't believe how cheap the fruit and veg was and the veg looked good. Bought quite a few bits. Other potential bargain was their liquid wash (for clothes). Our last machine got gunked up and we *think* liquid works better (along with hard water tabs) but it is dearer, I think. Anyway, the Lidl stuff is the same colour as Persil so I can pour it into that container in case doubting thomas , OH, sees it. Spent £47 and another £10 later. I have rounded up as can't quite remember. So, that's me with quite a lot for this week and also stocked up with some tins (kidney beans for 15p - yippee). I'm another convert to diluting milk and am really enjoying seeing 2 pints stretch! Another good deal was last week's butcher's chicken - we had a roast dinner for 3, then 2 of us had 3 more meals with the chicken - 2 x salads and then a curry, AND a huge pot of thick chicken broth made from the carcass and this lasted us 3 days. It's great to see how you can stretch food, isn't it?
Ok, I'm off to try out the Lidl wash on my bedding - fingers crossed!!
  • Hi Everyone,

I'm back for another month- I think!!! The tail-end on the Jan GC went terribly as there was just too much going on for me to concentrate on making meals, biscuits etc. We have just found out it looks as though our mortgage will be delayed now until March which put us in a very precarious financial situation this month. I'm not sure if I even have money to buy food:confused:
I will just have to re-jig things and delay some payments
This weekend is bitterly cold over here so I will stay indoors and bake until I run out of either gas or ingredients:rotfl: I find that if I assign a "baking day" that when the day comes sometimes I don't even want to go in the kitchen.
I'm also going to buy all the dog/cat food for the month and store it.
I need to put my thinking cap on to see how I can cope this month;)

Lil-me put me down for €200

I'll be back when I have workd out a plan and am in a more positive frame of mind:rotfl: :T
