Yesterday, I had to get dishwasher tablets, so, rather than spend the money on the FINISH tablets, I went to Lidl and bought theirs.
Havent used them yet, but, will use them today, are they any good?

I'd be interested to know how good these are (and price). The cheapest tablets I could find were 10p each so I bought 3kg dishwasher powder from Mr T's (£4.49) I'm sure we get loads more washes out of 3kg than if we switched to tablets but I haven't ever counted.

Have you tried making your own yoghurts? I got a free yoghurt maker and used plain bio yoghurt as a starter. It made lovely yoghurts. I found the instructions on a google search. It works out much cheaper than buying.

Recently I have bought kits from a wholefood shop and just add water, really cheap too and lovely flavours, a good idea if you buy lots of yoghurts.

I use these yogurt mixes as well as I was buying loads in the supermarket.

If its any help www.yoghurtdirect.co.uk does the whole range and only charge delivery if under £35 total order, but even factoring in delivery charge if you buy 10 or more they are still cheaper than the healthfood shop JG.

I make my own yogs (with an Easiyo yoghurt maker) from both UHT milk (with some yog as starter) as well as the Easiyo packs. It's quick and easy, and saves a fortune, especially if you make soya yoghurt.

How do you make soya yogurt?! That would be brilliant as ds2 has a milk protein allergy and his soya stuff costs us about £1.40 for four .

I've decided to join in with this for February just to see ow strict I can be with my grovery shopping.

I normally spend £400 per month (£100 per week) and I'm aiming to cut ir down to half.

Went shopping today and spent £34 so I've made a massive saving there. Lets see if I can continue throughout the month.....
  • Irish Mom, I hope things improve for you soon.
wmf, thanks for posting about the Lidl washing liquid.

Lots of shopping done to day. Spent £9.69 in Lidl that included lots of fruit and veg, bread flour, plain flour and some Pork & Leek sausages priced at £1. I also bought a 4 pack of pro-biotic yogurt for £0.62 which I'm chuffed about as I usually buy Activia.

Then on to Asda and spent a further £6.47 which included a large tray of mince, I'll get several meals from that. Went to Farmfoods for cold meat as it's 2 for £2 and also bought some porridge sachets, reduced to £0.49 and a tear and share Garlic Bread. I'll really need to start making my own Garlic Bread.

I'm glad to be part of this challenge as it's really making me look at the way I shop. I bought extra Mushrooms and am going to slice and freeze them. Can Mozerella be frozen? How, do you just put it the the freezer as it comes?

    Thanks

yes, I read it on this site somewhere yesterday! I think you just freeze it in the bag it comes in, but someone more knowledgeable will help I'm sure

Most of my kitchen electrical gadgets are of the frugal Cookworks variety and I have had no problems with them. They are basic, but functional.

I have a cookworks electric steamer, can't remember quite how cheap it was cos I've had it about 4 years, but it's brilliant, :D has 2 tiers plus a bit you can put inside one tier if you cook things like peas & sweetcorn that would drop through the holes! The only thing I can say against it is that the little rubber feet come off easily but, as I found out, it's fine without them!

Hi Folks! Hope you don't mind me joining in this month. Am taking fuel out of the equation(!) but usually find I'm a week "short" on my Tesco Clubcard. (£350 pm - but used for fuel too, of course.) Today's grocery shop came to £58 (2 adults, 2 dogs and a cat). Will be happy if I can come in at £250 for the whole month.

a further £4 spend for me today just to pck up the odd bits I couldnt get yesterday. im vowing not to go near a supermarket til Fri unless for bread.

I was pleasantly surprised that the chicken I had allocated for tonights dinner was far too much, so I saved some back and if I bulk it out with some bacon theres enough for a pasta bake tomorrow. It means we wont be having a roast tomorrow but as DH is on nights it wont hurt to put the meal plan back a day.
made some hobnobs today from the recipe on here. OMG they are the nicest hobnobs Ive ever had. they welded themselves to the trays unfortunatley (despite being greased) so had to be chiselled off but hey, a good excuse to eat the crumbs.
  • Hi Lil_me, you've missed me off your list for this month (prob as I only declared my Jan total on the Jan board right at the end of the month). Please can I go for £200 despite being well under in Jan as we've pretty much used up all the Christmas surplus now.
