I'd be interested to know how good these are (and price). The cheapest tablets I could find were 10p each so I bought 3kg dishwasher powder from Mr T's (£4.49) I'm sure we get loads more washes out of 3kg than if we switched to tablets but I haven't ever counted.

    FFM :)

    Hi FFM,

Just done my first wash with the Lidl dishwasher tablets, and they were great.

    I got a box of 40 for £2.99 which I thought was a bargin.

Decided just to venture out today to get what I needed, spent 76p in Lidls for a whole cucumber and 20p on a bag of onions.
The went to Asda and spent £13.79 on 2 packs of cold meat (which should last approx 2 weeks, a large block of cheese, and nappies for LO. I just bought Asdas own make nappies as he only wears them at night. Ive never tried them before, Ive only ever used Pampers. Does anyone know if the Asda nappies are ok?

So my grand total so far is £17.54, hopefully, the only thing I will need to buy next week are milk.

  • Hi Guys,

Thank you for the replies and support - they really mean a lot. I've been thru everything and I can pay all the bills and still have €400.00 over until the end of the month which is a hell of a lot better than I thought. I had envisioned putting all the bills in a hat and drawing out the lucky ones to be paid!!:rotfl:

I also now have a back up plan- I received a pre-paid credit card with €200 on it as part of an incentive scheme at work so if things get bad I'll see if they can be used in Tesco's or Dunnes to tide us over:T

Did I tell you guys I found a place over here doing biodiesel - Our fuel bills are phenonemal paying 1.139c average but the biodiesel is 84.5cent per litre. Our car/van need to be checked out to see if they are suitable. We then go on a list and the company will deliver 1000 litres at a time to us. What we want to do is put a 1000 litre tank or larger if we can get it onto the site where we are building -then we can top up our cars as and when and I am also looking at buying a generator for our new house than will also run on the bio-fuel so hopefully this will be sorted soon which will save a fortune long term!:T

I spent €50 in Lidl today mainly on pet food and a few bits for us. I had to buy anti-inflamatories for my back another €50.00:mad: but really nessecary at the mo.

I also got persil bio as I read on a thread somewhere it is the best for whites and my work blouses and my DD 's scholl shirt are looking really manky after the winter. I know if you put them on the line it bleaches them naturally but we haven't been able to do this for months. I also got a Dylon sachet for whites so I'll see how that goes.Any other tips for whitening? Is there something about egg-shells and I have a load of them for some reason at the moment

I'm going to make laundry gloop tomorrow as the batch I made end of October has run out- I use this for all the coloureds and find it works fine. I'm also trying the white vinegar with a few drops of rose oil and a conditioner and am very satisfied with it

I'm going to go thru the freezer tomorrow morning so could very well be back with a list looking for inspiration!! Dont say ye have not been warned!!:rotfl:

    Bye for now

I can't find the list for the February Challenge, so don't know if I'm on it :D

After 3 no spend days, I had to go for bread and milk today at a cost of £3.65 for 2 x cartons milk and 3 x wholemeal loaves. Going first shop of the month tomorrow and hope to stay within budget this month again.

Lingo, my steamer is a cooker top one, just really a double handled pot with 2 further tiers on top, but it does the job and makes me so frugal that I hate wasting steam :D

Irish mom, I didn't even know you could get generators that ran on biodiesel. Please keep us up to date on that as well :)

  • Hi Nykmedia,

I'm waiting for the sales guys at Surface Power to ring me back as there aren't any details on their website www.surfacepower.com but on one of the stories of houses already switched over they had the cost of the generator as €2500. When I was speaking to the biodiesel guy he said he had 2 generators working on it and that and old generators especially the American ones should be suitable - he reckoned pre-80's was best.

Long term we are looking at getting old cooking oil from one of the chippies and turning this in fuel but this is a few years down the line.

I'll post more info once I have any

    Thanks Jackie.

We used to use Tesco's own nappies and they were really good. Better than Pampers and Huggies (in our opinion).

  • Hi Guys, please can I join in a little belatedly? I was shocking in January - spent far too much and am determined February will be better. Aiming for £150 for 2 adults and 2 cats - I know many do it on a lot lower than this, but I think this is realistic for now, and I will try and knock £10 off next month.

Right, will go and update signature. xx

I'm sure there are more posts this month than Jan, can't keep up!

DH has finished his last lot of washing up for the week :rotfl: as per his bet for the JGC.

He has enjoyed it so much he wants to help!
 is my first thought followed by:j if he can cook and:rotfl: will proberly be the results of his effots!

I tried in vain to convince him not to come shopping with me tonight but he wouldn’t have it.

So in order not to have an argument in Sainsburys our first weekly shop (this is a 5 week month for me) came to £95.86p:eek:

He is now under pressure to produce a lot of meals from all that stuff. There was no washing power, loo rolls etc, it was 99% food! I have left him putting it away whilst I type here:D
I will redo cupboards and fridge/freezer tomorrow after work:rolleyes:

    Off to update signature now….

wonder if I should join the flylady challenge...he might fall for it:rolleyes:
