Hi guys
Hope everyone's doing well, my 2nd NSD in a row, am so pleased and am enjoying gobbling up the food in my freezer and cupboard after having nearly spent all my grocery money already lol. Good luck everyone.
I got paid on the 25th January, so it still seems like a 5 week month for me running from 25th Jan to 24th Feb, maybe next month will be shorter for me lol.
Have a good evening - and rosieben - will you be selling tickets, and where can I pay lol. Will just sit back here in the corner and watch, won't make too much noise lol.
Cheers
Casper

Hi All
I did my first shop of the month and again went on the look out for instore bargins.
Got loads of fruit and Veg as we are trying to loose weight but i am finding it quite expensive to buy eg 3 peaches in Tesco's are 99p which if you are eating as much fruit as we are it makes it expensive.
Anyhow good luck this month everyoneSealed Pot Challenge #6010 -

I'd forgotten about 'green points'. They still do this then? Are you talking about a clubcard point for every carrier bag you re-use? Damn! I've been missing out if that's the case :mad:Best wins: ITV Real Deal CASH,Trip to Lapland.0 -

Yes, they're still doing them - 1 point for a carrier, 2 for a bag for life (and various values for trolleys, buggies etc). I think I've finally got my local store trained up, lol - they were pretty awful when it first started, but now they do them automatically.DFW Nerd no. 884 - Proud to [strike]be dealing with[/strike] have dealt with my debts0 -
and dont forget if they have an automated recycling centre at tesco you can get 1 green point for every 4 items you recycle.
ours gives points for glass cans and plastic bottles but you dont get points for recycling carrier bagsSPC~12 ot 124

wow, this thread is moving fast! I've just caught up with everything posted.
I'm not sure if this baking lark is going to work though since 4 doz buns have 'mysteriously' disappeared overnight!
I'm off to the farmers market tomorrow and going to buy;
-2 trays of free range organic eggs (ungraded all different shapes and sizes with feathers and chicken poo on them for £2 a tray)
- 2 joints of meat, might get pork and beef. I know they are more expensive but they taste so much better and I can supplement the weeks meals with veggie dishes or pasta. Healthier too. I'm going to alternate the 4 sundays with chicken or whatever I can find in the freezer...I know I got some cheap pheasant before Christmas so will get them out and either roast or cook in sc.
- the cheese is good and you only need a very small amount as it is strong and flavoursome so a little goes a long way.
- not bothering with the ostrich burgers which cost £1.20 each! I have some lamb mince in the freezer that was going cheap so will use that up to make either burgers or kebabs (squash the seasoned meat around a kebab stick and grill)
I've got into a kind of routine now with meals even though its not strict meal planning, we usually have a pizza and salad on a saturday night (hm dough done in bm) and its our treat to have it in front of the tv as we normally eat at the table so the kids like that.
Sunday is a joint and veg etc.
monday is leftover day and make stock from the bones of the chicken for soups, split the stock and freeze so I can make more than 1 pan of soup.
Tues, wed, thurs is usually pasta/veggie cheesey dishes and then Friday we have something spicy such as curry or chilli.
repeat
It's only the 1st of the month but I'm determined to do this! Good luck everyone.Save £12k in 2012 no.49 £10,250/£12,000

mrs-moneypenny wrote: »I think the thing i was most pleased with myself over January was i never once used my 'card' to pay in a shop. i used the money i drew out for everything. ive got it all written down in a note book
i did a week to a double spread at the front. one page was my shopping list and the facing page total spends in each shop or market stall for the week.
i turned the book over and started at the back with a few pages for list of what costs how much in different shops then ive left a few pages blank to add to that and done another double page for the whole month with 'extra non food spends on one page then ive totalled up everything ive spent on the facing one, by adding all the non food to the extras. just got to wait for the bank statement to check the standing orders and direct debits etc that also came out this month.
When i go down today to get this weeks money out ill be able to tally that roughly against what the balance was last week.
Hi all
I can recommend using a note book as me and OH have been doing this for years! We use an A5 notebook. At the start of each month we write down how much wages, child benefit & tax credits go in then immediately take off all the standing orders, direct debits, council tax, phone bill, savings (regardless of what date in the month they actually come out of the account) etc to leave a final amount for spending. EVERY time you withdraw cash or use a debit card you have to remember to keep the reciept, write it in the book and adjust the running total. We find it works really well and use it all the time. You can then use the book to check off your bank statements.
This month I am trying the spending cash for groceries method as suggested by several people. I hope it will make me really think about what I'm spending!
I'm off to do my menu plan for the next 10 days.
Good luck everyone.Mortgage Free in 3 part 2 challenge - pay off £9000

Hello all... just done some bits and bobs shopping in Mr T's as OH is away abroad this weekend. For all you breadmakers, I noticed Tesco has Dove Farm Organic wholemeal flour reduced - 60p for 1.5 kg - is that a good deal?
The shelf says "discontinued". I would normally buy the cheapest but this one was originally about £1.80 or something. Now I just need a recipe.... I don't have a breadmaker though so will do it by hand.
Just off to look for a recipe on the boards but if anyone has a foolproof recipe for wholemeal bread, I would really appreciate it! Foolproof as in I don't have tins so it will lump it on a baking sheet..aiming to make a round cob/cottage loaf type....not very pretty but I'll have it as crusty bread with soup rather than as sandwiches.
Have a lovely weekend everyone! Treated myself to a reduced curry and BBC Food magazine as OH is away...we should have an Old Style magazine! Oh wait, we'd have to pay for it....that's why we can swap tips for free here!
Happy Friday:beer:
