  • Hi Everyone,

Good luck with your challenge this month.

I sort of done the january one, but well, I felt I'd cheated. So here I am, 1st of the month, and I'm about to write a menu plan for the week and go shopping in my lunch break.

I aim to spend less than £300 for 4 adults and 1 'almost' teenager

Even Sunnyday has week 1 in Feb filled in so far, how comes? I thought the Feb challenge starts on the 1st of each month  Please don't tell me i'm starting at the wrong day :o

    Hi Kimberley,
Carolt2 is quite right i have adjusted my GC to when i get paid which is 4 weekly, i originally started on the first of the month intending to go through to the last but later on in the month i realised that i would soon get into a mess like this due to when i get paid so for the Feb challenge i started on my payday.
My 2nd February weeks shopping will be this coming weekend.
When i get the hang of things properly i will have to have some 5 weekly months even though they don`t tally up with paydays or else i`ll have to add an extra month to the year lol maybe Sunnuary.:D
I`ll probably do a five weeker when i`ve got lots of stuff in and try to work around. Good luck!

Planning on starting the GC again soon :p
  • Not been on for a while but aiming to spend £200 for two adults and a14 month old, not including nappies and wipes. It's snowing heavily here (north of Scotand) so have got HM soup in the slowcooker and an unexpected day off uni!:j

I'm going to join in this month - a fresh start and all that.

I tried the challenge a couple of times last year, and failed dismally - but DFW Earthmother has kicked in (or been kicked up the backside more like), and I need to do this.

So, February runs from today to 2nd March, and I have about 2 weeks of meals (or at least the main bits) in the freezer, and £160 to do the rest of my shopping with (doesn't include toiletries or nappies).

That's £14 worth of milk every week, £5 worth of cheese, £4 worth of bread, all the fruit and veg, plus all the bits I usually forget like packed lunch contents, cleaning bits, and if I'm lucky a bar of Value Chocolate at the end of it all.

There are 5 of us, and that is about £100 less than my usually monthly budget, so it could be interesting.

    :)

I have got into a really bad habit of shopping for bits every day and have been spending a fortune, so I'm setting myself a target and will only spend from my food shopping purse this month to get a handle on things. I'm setting a budget of £400 for February for 2 adults, 2 greedy teenagers, 2 fussy daughters (one with milk allergy) and a baby. it's quite generous because this month is about getting into control - I will tighten the belt next month!
  • Afternoon all
Well i have done the bulk of my monthly shopping, £29.32 at ASDA and £21.87 Lidl's. Just top up from now on for bread, milk, veg. Hoping to come in below my budget but, it is only the first of the month.:rotfl:

    Good luck

Some people do their grocery challenge according to payday. I get paid every 4 weeks so my feb challenge is from fri 25th jan to fri 22nd feb.
Others might do their challenge by the calendar month. It's up to you what you choose to do. You can do a weekly challenge then work out average spend as there are things like toilet roll that you buy this week but wont buy next week etc.

Hope that make things abit clearer for you.

    ;)

Thank you and Rosieben for that

    It's very confusing :o

oh well i will start mine from the 1st of each month, that makes so far today spend at 74p on chocolate :p

it depends what you have budgeted the money for if it is your 'grocery money' just include that but if you have also allowed for other spends then they go in.

for example i have a grocery budget of £100 but i draw more than that out each week the other goes on stamps, phone top ups, kids pocket money, milkman, DH's allowance;) etc. i have a set amount i spend on those each money so i know exactly what they all are and keep those seperate to my 'grocery' money

does that answer your question or even make sense?
