Ive not been checking in as regularly this month, but doing ok trundling along on my own. I have about a quid left in my budget to last til Thu so I wont declare my total in case I have an emergency need for bread or milk or something.

My March target will be £120 for 4 weeks starting on 29th Feb.

Didn't see your original question but -when i was at catering college -we only ever used Plain flour and added baking powder to make Self Raising..and i have noticed that here in germany "self raising doesn't exist either"

I pretty much always use the cheapest flour and still make stunning pastry -if i say so myself :rotfl: ..... the only "special" flour i have sometimes had is the "sponge" flour -but only when making a special cake..but most of the time i use bog standard ;)
    Hope that helps

    Hi Mrs Mc,

In which ratio do you use the flower/ baking powder?

I have a problem with my german cake recipes. When I use flour and baking powder, it never rises/ gets nice and fluffy.

Whereas when I use sr flour, it seem to work better.

I am not sure, what I am doing wrong there. As long I did the cakes in GErmany, no problem. Now that I am living in the UK, it all seem to go nowhere??????

    Thanks

    Egon

Sorry to hear you're having a tough time Jacks - take it easy.

Mrs M - glad to hear about the dough freezing! I have some left over in the fridge as I only made one tortilla earlier just to test. Will freeze the little dough balls then and use when i need them.

Had a brill day today all due to this site. First i sold the humungous lcd telly i won in a comp off these boards for £600 (I can now pay some bills and breathe at last). Then I got £23 of stuff in Boots plus free gifts for the grand total of £2.75 (thanks to the mad ladies on the Boots grabbit thread). Then popped over to sainsbury's with coupons and got two packs of free nappies to add to my baby stuff pile. Then an £8 shop at tesco reduced to £5 with coupons and vouchers I found from these boards.

And managed to fend off OH wanting to celebrate the £600 by ordering chinese. We have a fridge full of food so no! Determined not to slip into wanton ways the minute we have a bit of cash for a change!

  • Hello everyone,

I know I haven't posted as much this month but it has been a busy busy month. I thought I had gone way overbudget but I got all the receipts together and once I had taken off my daughters stuff for projects, clothes etc I realised I was only 34 cent over budget.
Admittedly I did go to the butchers and spend €36.00 but the majority of this is in the freezer. I have used €9.00 worth of meat so far so my Feb total is €209.34 which I am pleased about.

I'm not sure what to do about budgets for next month. I am off for about a week and a half and we are starting to build our house (Please God, are you listening!! Get our mortgage sorted!!):rotfl:

The first of the tradesmen is a friend of my husband and his wife normally accompanies him to work - long story don't ask! so if I am around its a bit mean not to feed them. We live 9 miles away from the site so all I could really manage is soup in flasks and sndwiches. I don't know , my husband says they will be fine as it is not expected to feed them. Normally they are on empty sites with no one around

    What do ye think?

Lil bet - €209.34 for Feb

Mrs MC €250.00 for March plese

Thank you very much to Lil bet and Mrs Mc for doing this - it is appreciated

Hopefully I will be able to post more next month.

Jacks, I am so sorry to hear your of family bereavements - You are in my thoughts and prayers.Take care of yourself

    Hello All...

    Firstly Jacksxxx... BIG Hugs :o

JoJoB... Glad you have had a good day, and your worries have eased. It does help you see over the hill if you know what I mean.

Irish Mom... I think if you feel obliged to feed your workers then you cant go wrong with HM soup and HM bread. My brother is a brickie. I know on many occasion he has said that if they are offered soup, they never refuse, especially in this weather. (They.. are my brother and Big Eddie - his Labourer. My 6ft 3 brother, also calls Big Eddie, Big Eddie too :rotfl:The guy is huge:eek: but lovely)
If you dont feel obliged to feed them, why dont you bake some of twinks hobnobs and a flask of tea for them. They are quite filling, so it might help them warm up in the cold weater.

MrsMcawber.. good news about the freezing tortilla dough.. will be trying that soon. Thanks :T

Lil-Me.. can you put my final total as Waaaaaay waaaay over at £150 :o

MrsMcawber .... I will post my target for next month in next months thread ;)

I just love this thread :D:D:D:D
You are all very fab :T :D
