I'm now refusing to go anywhere near a shop before the weekend! After world war III broke out in this household, I went and bought bread (cost me 77p for a loaf!!), milk & cheese and ended up going £1.68 over budget! The worst of it is, I could have waited a few days before buying the cheese, but didn't think it was worth the riot of running out. If DS wants anything else he can jolly well buy it for himself!I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

Sorry not been around for the last 2 weeks. BUT i have been good and kept my receipts and i have updated my signature accordingly
I still have this week to go but i'm reasonably pleased £192.72 up to now and keeping my fingers crossed that i come in under budget.
Lil_me please keep me at £240 for March as i am coming up to a Costco Shop and i will update total for Feb at end of the week.
Thanks again to everyone for your inspiration and support.

Thanks lil-me and mrssnowy for your helpful ideas. Actually OH has checked on the internet and you can buy a spare element for £25 and he says he probably can fit himself - so although it's £25 I would rather not spend, it's a whole lot cheaper than a new cooker! I knew my OH would come in useful for more than just eating what I cook!
On the other hand my bank is driving me nuts because it has 'locked ' my account - alleging that I entered by details incorrectly when I logged on to their internet banking. Now I have been using the same numbers for the past 8 years and I am sure I didn't make a mistake. I usually log on each day and monitor the currrent account, moving money from my savings if it looks like going overdrawn. Perhaps they got fed up with me playing this game and are trying to get their own back! Anyway I have had to re-register and it will be 3 days before I get my new numbers. This little things are sent to try us....!0 -

Hi everyone out there
Ive just spent ages reading through your posts - you are all so inspirational! You are all doing so well its amazing!:T :T
Can I join the challenge for next month please? I get paid on friday so will have to start then - and I am going to try for £200 for 2 adults and a 2 year old. How achievable do you think this is? I think I spend approx £70 a week at the moment, so hopefully it shouldnt be too bad. I hope to lose nappies from the spend in the near future, so this should help a bit!
Im not too good at home cooking (and after giving OH and myself food poisoning at the weekend, dont think I should be let loose with anything too complicated!) - but am going to try and pick up as many tips as I can before I shop so i can hopefully spend a little more wisely.
sorry for the essay - and here we go!
thanks for listening!Sealed Pot no 20110 -
Hi everyone.
Spent £2.54 today for milk and bread at Tesco.
Thanks for recommending the Cravendale milk offer as it will save us a bit.
Does anyone have a recipe for vegetarian sausage casserole?
Am thinking ahead to April-which will be a 5 week month for us and I'll be home for 3 weeks-Easter school holiday.
Am very lucky as eat main meal at school each day (great perk-despite a little indigestion from cutting up my class' food) so April will be a real G. challenge!!!!

Have done my last food shop of the month, and have managed to scrape under the £240 budget I set by £1.01 - phew! There's no way I'm crossing the threshold of a food shop until Saturday
I missed the post about highlighting my budget in red last month, so this was an 'unofficial' attempt, but I'd like to become legit and go for £240 for March please Mrs M for 1st March to 28 March.
Once again thanks to everyone for the tips, recipes and advice, and good luck for the March challenge.0 -
Ok finally marked up what my online shop was from last week £24.48 plus my last spend of the month today was another £10.60 so it means i have gone over budget this month by a total of £7 ~ not bad when i had to do a large cut down this month and knocked £100 off my normal grocery budget.
February's Grand total has come in at £207.00
i am actually quite proud of myself will do some figures over the next few days and see how well i can do march's budget won't be knocking another £100 off again for next month but if i managed it so well this month for the 5 of us there should be no reason why i can not bring it down a bit more again.
Good luck everyone else on your last days of february.Still TryingGrocery challenge July 2016

Speaking of carbonara... When My DD does carbonara, (I'll just put my fingers in my ears ready!!!) we use a jar of carbonara sauce, is there a cheaper way??? please???
Hi there Tattycath, this is the way I make Carbonara: Fry smoked bacon with a clove of garlic in some olive oil until the bacon is crispy. Then turn off the heat and remove the garlic clove. Mix 3 eggs with Parmesan cheese and season well. Cook the pasta and then using a pasta scoop to take out the pasta, drop the pasta in with the fried bacon. (Make sure the pasta is dripping) Then mix in the egg mixture into the pasta and allow the hot pasta to cook the eggs. If you feel it's not liquid enough, use a few more tablespoons of the pasta water.
I don't use cream as I'm constantly on a diet...;) Apparently they don't often use it in Italy anyway. But if you're not watching your weight you can use a few tablespoons!
By the way, the number of eggs roughly matches the number of people +1 - so this is a recipe for 4. How much bacon and pasta and cheese you use is up to you but I use a rasher of bacon per person and around 1/2 tblspn parmesan pp0
