VALM & Maddiemay - I'm glad that I didn't know about the YK TSV. It might have been my first Q purchase... (Don't let me go there :rotfl: Unless it's Elemis or L'Occitane and I've UU 100 things! :rotfl:) The grotty weather has put me in the mood for scented candles. I have a sampler pack of YK to go and root around in so that will have to keep me happy. (Maddiemay - the Jo Malone candle was a lovely find!
)
I shouldn't be awakeBecause things have been so stressful here I've got in a muddle with my meds and have run out of one that I hoped wasn't as important. Really irresponsible (and unlike me). I now can't sleep properly (a long term struggle) prob due to withdrawal  Hopefully I can solve this on Monday...
On a happier note, I'm adding Aloe Vera to my HG list! My skin still feels a bit tight and itchy but all of the redness has gone. Thank you to someone here mentioning they use a thick layer of a SBC (?) gel as a mask. The idea stuck and I did this with my aloe vera gel as a last resort and it worked a minor miracleI think it did my skin more good than Origins Drink Up mask or Clinique Moisture Surge normally does. :T
Hi Willowbee. You would probably have been safe then yesterday as the TSV was a pack of samplers. I think there were 20 in the kit and they worked out at about £1.30 each inclusive of the p&p so it was a pretty good price. I like to burn the wax tarts mostly however usually have a wax tart burner and two x votives burning together on my mantlepiece in the evenings. I also have burners in my bathroom and bedroom and a large candle in the hall.
At other times I personally don't think QVC is good value for YC. Firstly the p&p is usually higher than any other stockist and usually negates any saving you make. Secondly, they sell the same selection of fragrances over and over again - looks like they are playing it safe for regular customers so if you are after anything a bit different you're better off going to an outlet. At the moment I have Midsummers' Night in my living room, Chocolate Bunnies in my hall, Cherry Berry Pie in my bedroom and Drift Away in the bathroom.
Yes, YC is the other obsession I have as well as toiletries!! In my own way I am :money: with them though as I reburn the wax left over from votives and jar candles in my burners.kiplingmonkey wrote: »Have started as I mean to go on with body scrubs - am determined to use a scrub every Saturday as I am very forgetful when it comes to using a body scrub (or perhaps it is because there is so much of me to scrub - :rotfl:) - I use a face scrub twice a week without fail but just forget a body scrub. Used S&G flakeaway - liked the scrubbiness but found the scent a bit overpowering (I find their scents too flowerey somehow). Anyway, will persevere with it - I must admit my arms do feel nice and soft.
And I have 2 small INs as I managed to find some Glamour magazines:
Benefit
That Gal 7.5ml
The Porefessional 7.5ml
I use a primer every day and although I like what I am using at the moment, I can't decide if it is a HG or not so good to have a trial run with something else at the bargain price of £2. Avoided the mascara as I got one of those in my Red magazine (this is progress for me...).
Keep up the good work with the scrubs kiplingmonkey.

Thanks Willowbee, Valm, maddiemay, kiplingmonkey and Rosemary. I have been surveying the damage this morning and the vax and dehumidifier are doing a really good job. The damp walls are drying out and the damp smell is lifting. I kept it on during the night and have just moved it from room to room. It is now looking like it is more cosmetic than I first thought - thank goodness. I am trying to look past it at the mo and distract myself. I have a hair appopintment this afternoon for a cut and colour and then I am going to the M & S sale to buy some clothes - hehe not wine or chocs rosemary but I am sure you will understand :rotfl:
My mum has come over and will help me spend the cash at the shoppong centre and then back to mine for the clean up. I am bribing her with a nice dinner.
I do need to redo my nails but that will have to wait.
Willowbee - hope things work out ok for your nan and your OH's life does sound very interesting.
That sounds like a very good way to spend your day, FiascoI hope that you have a lovely time and find some bargains in the M&S sale :T What a relief that the dehumidifier and vax are doing a good job. It's still really awful though and I wish you weren't having to deal with it
Fingers and toes crossed for a speedy resolution. (I think you're dealing with it amazingly well
)
Thank you for the good wishes for my Nan. We just feel a bit powerless at the moment and obviously want what is best for her. (I'm also concerned for my poor Dad as he is in charge of all this as his Sis lives in Canada).
My OH does have an extraordinary life, but this is crazy even by his standards! (Some mind-bogglingly well-known people are coming to the island for a party whilst he is there). His last week went - music festival on Sat (for fun), Sunday lunch with a really interesting author, two days in a recording studio, first read through of a play he's doing, giving a lecture and taking part in a panel discussion at the Hay literary festival, then straight to Heathrow to fly to Finland. My OH is not famous, I hasten to add! He just has a knack of meeting interesting people that like his work. (And his work is very varied). The oddest thing, really, is that I rarely leave the house due to my stupid illness, so it's quite a contrast...0 -

Active 7 radiant eye gel (can't see ml size properly in the ad but presume it will be 5ml)
On sale 4th July if anyone is interested.
Ooh I don't think I've ever tried anything by REN. May have a look out for this. Thanks Willowbee, Valm, maddiemay, kiplingmonkey and Rosemary. Fiasco, enjoy your shopping trip. Am glad that your flat doesn't seem as much as a mess as you originally thought.rosemary54 wrote: »well sold 4/8 items on flea bay,one girl got a real bargain with my Benefit set of three as last week the eye cream alone sold for £11.28! whilst I sold the set for £5.56.It is frustrating that fleabay says relist but then says you have reached your limit for the month so can't relist for 23 days!!!Still I have"UU" four things and ama few pounds better off:)plus have photos ready for next free listing, was abit surprised more did not sell as all Clarins at bargain prices!
You've done really well for a first go. I have some lots ending on Monday and am hoping that they get bid on.
I've painted OPI Pirouette My Whistle on top of the Mavala colour and it looks much better.
Also, we have been invited to a fancy dress party next weekend and MrM's cousin has kindly lent us some costumes. The only one that would fit me and that I'd wear is a flamenco dress and I've been putting off trying it on because I didn't think it would fit but I've just tried it on and it looks fab. I am so chuffed. Need to find a red flower hair clip now to finish the outfit off. Emma and her friend will be dressed as red chilli peppers and MrM has a choice of either dressing as a Mexican or a Knight. I hope he goes as the Mexican or he's going to look, well, odd. xBack for the No Buying Toiletries challenge. I used so many emoticons in that post *blush* :rotfl:
I'm trying to notch up a few No Spend days (on anything) this month. I've slipped into bad eBay clothes buying habits  I need to sell clothes, not buy them. I started counting NS days on the 7th and today could be my 3rd NS day. I would love to manage 10 NS days by the end of June.
We're all v worried about my Nan as she is waiting to be discharged from hospital, we've been told she isn't well enough to go back to her old folks home (a really lovely place) and we need to find her a place in a nursing home asap. She went into hospital with a minor infection that caused a fall (no lasting damage) and after being stuck in bed for a month has lost so much weight/strength that she can't go back to her home. (They had to have someone with her all the time at the hospital as she kept trying to get out of bed, so the will to move and be active is there. I feel like they just over-reacted to her age).
My BF has been flown to a private island (!!!) for the next two weeks and he left us at something of a cliffhanger moment (not unhappy, just confusing). He is staying in a summerhouse on the edge of a lake where he has been given time to read, think and write (he's an artist and remarkable things like this often happen to him...)
SO. Lots of triggers for spending so I need to stay conscious of the urge to spend, be it toiletries, candles, clothes...it really doesn't matter. (I'm allowed unlimited chocolate though :rotfl:)
Oh goodness, you do have such a lot going on in your life atm, perhaps your itchy skin is a reaction to some of this, or perhaps the non available meds.
I think nsd's are a great idea, having been on holiday they are a bit lacking here, apart from having to buy light lunch for OH and me, I did not spend on Tuesday, nothing on Wednesday, big spend on Thursday (supermarkets and a mini greenhouse and a Red magazine), so will declare the IN of Gemma Kid mascara here. If I stay home and garden or housework tomorrow that would make 3 for June, so must stay away from internet, 'tho have a bid on a dress expiring tomorrow.
Try working out some diversion tactics to avoid the shopping perhaps, e-mail/phone/write to a friend, tidy stash cupboard, plan next weeks clothes and toiletries, mani/pedi/body scrub/fake tan? I am not suggesting you have do do them all:rotfl:
So sorry about your Nan, when my Dad was in his late 60's he developed a serious chest infection and we almost lost him, he stayed in hospital 10 weeks and was given no physio, so all his muscles wasted (he already had a gammy leg), the outcome after another 2 or 3 years was amputation of both lower legs because of circulation problems, as you can tell I am still a little bitter about this, and will do everything in my power to stay away from hospitals (having said that have an appointment about my ankle on Monday:rotfl:) I think our nurses do a fine job, but the system is only geared to the short term.

It was very kind of you not to point out the I abbreviated Yankee Candles to YK, not YC!!
It's nice to know that I didn't miss out on some super-bargain too.I was given a YC in a jar years ago and was amazed by how strong the scent was. Then, in the Jan sales (pre-challenge discovery!) I bought a sample pack of 18 votives direct from YC. I'm keeping notes as I go so I can buy larger versions of the ones I love most. (I haven't burnt Midsummer's Night yet but it smells lovely.
) I liked Tutti Frutti and Midnight Jasmine. I was disappointed by Christmas Cookie (I have a Lily Flame Honey & Vanilla candle that I like much more). It's a fab idea to use the dregs in a burner. Thank you for that :T (I remember reading that you can get wax out of glass more easily you freeze it?!) My official aim is to UU all the sample votives before I buy any more (ha!) but some of them smell really disappointing. (There were a lot of air freshener type smelling ones in the set that I bought. I'm hoping they will smell better when they're unwrapped). It might be the most literal case if PRCP and burning all my favourites and then maybe donating the rest?
PS I have to ask - what on earth does Chocolate Bunnies smell like??! :rotfl: (*goes off to look it up*)0 -
Willowbee - sorry to hear about your Nan :grouphug:. We are all now sooooo intrigued about your OH! I would love to go to Hay - it is one of those places along with the Chelsea Flower show that I intend to go to when my DDs are a bit older.0

I like the fresh type like Clean Cotton, the foodie type like Christmas cookie/Cherry Berry Pie and the green type which are usually festive ones like Christmas tree and Cedar and Balsam. Although I also like the fruity smelling ones MrM doesn't and says they all smell like "berry". The only ones I have tried and really didn't like were Thaitian Tiare Flower (gave me headache) and Cafe au Lait as it smelt like a chinese curry. My all time favourite was Jack Frost (a festive one that smelt minty) but YC have discontinued this.
Chocolate Bunnies smells of Cadbury's chocolate. It is devine. Does not smell of bunnies at all! I know - I've compared it to Smudge and Sophie. x
here is a link to a piccy of the jar.

Thank you :A Such a thoughtful reply
I wondered about the itchy skin being a stress response as well. I'm staying as calm as possible but I guess that the stress will show up somewhere.I've put my tried and tested mineral powder on today as that usually keeps my skin calm (by Origins - a discontinued HG). My priority is to minimise the likelihood of a major M.E. flare but nothing much seems under control at the moment! Your suggestions of distractions are all excellent
Anything that sends a 'self-care' signal to my brain and body will help, I think. Also, a bit of tidying and planning always makes things seem a bit better. I will try to get outside as well (I'm glad that the sun has come out for you
).
I'm so sorry about what happened to your Dad. That is heartbreaking.I have the same feelings about the focus on short-term care. I don't think my Nan has had physio or even the basic exercises to avoid DVT that is common with enforced bed rest. We've talked to some wonderful nurses there but there has been a total lack of long-term planning/sense of the consequences for her. As a family you put your trust in the system and it's so difficult to adjust to what is happening that you often don't get a chance to speak up or question the care/advice that is being given.
Best of luck with your ankle appt on Monday. I hope that you see someone good(I hope that you win your dress as well!)

don't get me started on "care"? for older people:mad::mad::mad:my mum went into a hospice as only given a couple of weeks to live with cancer and when she did not die in time they insisted she moved out to an old folks home,(I was on holiday at the time after having looked after her at home I needed a break), my brother who lived near said no she had to go to him(hospice did not approve as his wife had health problems!) they threw her out on a rainy day and as the ambulance could not get right up to my brothers door he had to hold an umberella over her on a stretcher, she never recovered, had to go on morphine and died the next day.It was very traumatic for all involved.0
