Yeah, I've always got more ingrown hairs from waxing & epilating too - I think it may be because the hair comes through finer and softer. I suppose it's less likely to poke through the skin if it's soft and so curls around instead. Bloody things, why can't we just be hairless from the neck down.

Firstly - I do not have Herpes. I believe that if I'm old enough to have sex I'm old enough to look after my own sexual health and am always 1. Safe! 2. Have regular STI checks (not had one for a year as I've had the same partner and we both got checked out before any unprotected sex was had ((contraceptive implant!)) h

Secondly - regardless of how painfull or infected it is, I ain't sticking anything in it, nor is my granny :D

I think if your friend got them that often, and they spread to her armpits, she should of pushed for more medical intervention. I'm off to the go on Friday evening as the site why mine was infected is still very sensitive. Not painful though. I'm wondering if this is just because of how stretched the skin was? I had some bleeding and while it's been healing it has had that 'healing itch' you get with any wound.

like I said before, normally in the past they last for a coupe of days and quickly either burst or die down, this is the first real problem I've had that has resulted in a&e.

I'm still waiting for 'ladies time' to be over so i can shave again! I've started the moisturising routine and have tcp at the ready for any problems! I had a another little bump pop up the other day, put on tcp before bed, wouldn't know it had even reared itself!

What's funny, is I'm now, 3 week since shaving anywhere, possibly the warmest I have ever been.

I realised yesterday that I hadn't been particularly cold for a week! This amount of hair on my legs is like wearing breathable tights! The boyfriends being very accepting, but he's stopped rubbing my legs lol

I didn't say she got them often, as far as i know it wasn't very often. She did have medical intervention and quite a lot at the time i think.

green1970 - I would give anything to get alopecia from the neck down!!

Nickybat - I'm glad your friend did get medical treatment in the end. Hot needles by granny is not the way forward!

    I've been Money Tipped!
Might be worth asking your GP about Hidradenitis Suppurativa especially if it's something you've had recurring for a long period of time.

Funnily enough I was reading this thread this weekend and I got one come up - I've had these horrid things ever since I hit puberty and the one(under my pant line) got to the size of a golf ball:eek: Luckily I tea-treed it to death.

I went to my new GP today as my useless old one just kept saying it was adult onset acne - for 30 years?????? He diagnosed it as the above within minutes and I can now just pop in and ask for anti-B's anytime I get a flare up. He gave me some for a week if I get another biggie crop up.

LOL, I had one when it was really hot....and I popped it! Blood & yuck everywhere, but it was all but gone by the next day, just a bit purple looking. After a couple of days, completely back to normal. I did use lots of TCP after popping it. What a relief! :-)

Just a quick update - After all the healing, itching, and trauma, I now have a small pimple in the middle of the original infected site. It is extremely sensitive and I have a feeling it may be the ingrown hair trying to pop out. I have a doctors appointment tonight anyway to get it all checked, so I'm going to try and persuade her to have a look. Unfortunately, I just can't see it properly even with a mirror to be able to pop or cut it and get any hair out.

I really do feel its just a particually stubborn ingrown hair, but until it's sorted and gone, I'm paranoid about getting any infection there :(

Put lots of TCP on last night without popping it just to try and prevent it spreading - I did use some swear words and had to stand like a sheriff for a bit!

I have everything crossed (other than my legs:rotfl:) that this will all be sorted tonight. Otherwise I am tempted to just stab at it with a steralised needle and squeeze - which I KNOW could lead to an infection, but enough is enough!

Has anyone used Tendskin? I've seen it on Amazon with quite good reviews...?

Just saw this thread now. Tendskin iis AMAZING. After shaving my bikini line can get lots of little red spots, after using tendskin, none. It's also brilliant for getting out ingrown hairs.

In the interests of moneysaving I THINK you can make a version of tendskin but I'm not sure what the ingredients are, I'm guessing aspirin is in there somewhere.

To be honest though, as you're suffering I'd just go with the proper stuff.

I'm going to order some on Amazon over the weekend. Been to the docs and given a different type of antibiotics (erythromycin ethylsuccinate antibiotics)

The doctor said she couldn't see if its an ingrown hair or a cyst or an infected hair follicle as the area is inflammed, but has booked me in for a weeks time so once the infection has died down a bit she gonna feel for a cyst.

I've had the odd cyst thats gone away before in that area, so I'm thinking what she is saying is making sense.

She said, in no uncertain terms, I am NOT to start prodding it or cut it. She actually said that it is unlikely i will heal 100% fully if I was to do this as the infection would get so deep.

So thats it. 7 more days of antibiotics!

Having my first shave of 4 weeks tonight as boyfriend has been so patient, he deserves a treat!! Doctor also said that in the future, not to bother talking with the receptionist if she needs an apt and to just turn up and she WILL see me :D she was horrified that I had to go to A & E just to get it looked at. By the way she approached the receptionist as I left, I have no doubt she was in for a stern telling off :rotfl:

I haven't read all the posts, but wanted to add my thoughts for what they're worth!

I've suffered in a very similar way to this - I suffer from sebaceous cysts and I have one right on my groin area, on the crease at the very top of my leg.

Sometimes it flares up and can reach the size of a golf ball/plum sometimes - excruciating! The pain gets so bad I can't bear even my (very loose!) pyjama bottoms touching it, so I truly sympathise. Especially as it makes walking, sitting, even lying down so painful.

Whenever I've had this I have always managed to get a same day appointment with my doctor, by telling them I have an infection in my leg. The doctor then rings me back, and as it's an ongoing thing he'll either see me that day or leave a prescription for antibiotics for me on reception.

Once when it was so massive and a week's worth of antibiotics hadn't affected it one bit he did lance it, but to be honest, although it hurt (it made me cry!), I was so glad he did it because as soon as he'd done it I could walk almost normally and didn't have the pain any longer.

Well I've just finishe another set of antibiotics and it seems to of cleared up well, but only time will tell. The gp's been great since my last visit, and she said she would ensure if I needed to see her again she would arrange to see me within the same day. If it does flare up again I will ask for consistent antibiotics if if flares up. I really don't want to have any surgery as I'm petrified, but I'm still hoping it was just a few badly infected hair follicles. We shall see!

Oh and I've finally shaved - yay!
