I took my money out of Derbyshire when they returned my cheque for a Platinum Monthly Saver. I'd be taking my money out of Yorkshire if it wasn't tied up. Suppose I'll just have to have a good sulk instead."It will take, five, 10, 15 years to get back to where we need to be. But it's no longer the individual banks that are in the wrong, it's the banking industry as a whole." - Steven Cooper, head of personal and business banking at Barclays, talking to Martin Lewis0 -

And the ones who don't know will include many customers, even "local" customers, who don't have any reason to keep popping into a branch. We don't all call in every Wednesday morning to draw out £10 from our monthly 0.5% interest to buy buttered scones for tea.

They have massive signs in the window, big banners, floor to ceiling, people can see the account, and people came in enquiring about it whilst I was booking my appointment for it. I'm unemployed, and would love to be so busy that I don't have time to pop into branch, sadly I'm not, so it's perfect for me, and I would imagine many others who either have the time due to being on benefits, or who aren't very switched on with electronic payments/have access to accounts that are able to deal with direct debits.0 -

Yorkshire BS took over Egg Savings. The Egg savers became Yorkshire BS members and customers. Since the Egg Accounts were exclusively online and national then any 'local' savings accounts are discriminatory.
What use is a branch operated account to an ex Egg Savings customer in St Ives ? The nearest branch is Gloucester 215 miles away.
Somewhere in the guidelines it says you should 'treat customers fairly' . How can it be fair to treat some better because they can get to the branch ?

I think some oak-panelled people in the head offices of banks and building societies - who probably don't use computers themselves - are still under the impression that popping into your branch is very much part and parcel of being a customer, whereas online banking is just an inessential extra. They haven't yet understood that many customers don't see it that way."It will take, five, 10, 15 years to get back to where we need to be. YBS offer online banking as do other building societies, but for some people going into branch is still the way they operate certain accounts. I've got some good interest rates on savings accounts that are operated in branch, and for me, because I am unemployed, I have the time to do so, and if needs be can be down at a branch within 15 minutes to withdraw cash if an emergency occurs because I don't have a substantial buffer in my current account.0 -
I have only just stumbled across this thread. Very interesting reading it makes as well.
I am a Yorkshire Building Society customer, and have been for many years. I hold several accounts. I am also a Panel Member for the Yorkshire. For those that don't know, this means I regularly answer surveys and provide feedback on customer satisfaction to enable them to maintain, and hopefully improve, their service.
I think it might be time for me to provide them with some feedback. Living in Lancashire, it would appear I'd be excluded from the "locals only" account offer - so, I'm not happy!
I'll write to them and see what response I receive as a Panel Member.0
