Yorkshire Building Society - Local Saver

Is there any new local competition to the branch offering the account? Leeds Building Society offered an excellent branch account that was only available at its one London branch when Metro Bank opened down the road. (IIRC even in that case details were available on the LBS website).0

It's also being offered at the Huddersfield branch too, it's a bit of a mystery to me as to why it's not anywhere else!0

Just managed to get to a local agency who had heard of the account but as far as they knew it was only available to applicants who were indigineous to the Yorkshire area. Being an agent, they may not have the full story but they have proved to be reliable in the dealings which I have had with them in the past.
I know that there's been trouble at tut mill recently and property prices are more competitive in Gods county, (where someone spent 40 days and 40 nights ?), but I'm not moving to Yorkshire just to get 4%.0 -
That probably explains it then! I've got my appointment to open one, but sadly due to them being fully booked, it's not until next week!0

Sounds like a branch only account to allow them to try and flog you something else along the way.0

They can try and sell me something else, won't work though, never has done! Well, not since I got wise to interest rates and what accounts I required!0

No hard sale involved at all. I opened an account on Saturday - I didn't even bother with the niceties of an appointment.
Unfortunately I'm away from home at the moment (paperwork details are there) but essentially you can pay up to £6000 into the account. Go over that and the WHOLE amount is transferred into their triple saver account - so need to keep an eye on what you are putting in. You are limited on withdrawing funds - limited number of days per year and you also lose 90 days interest (before maturity) but can add money whenever you like, up to the £6000 limit. Runs until June 2013 when it will be transferred into their triple saver - you can cut and run then without any penalities.
And yes, it is for people living locally (I live just outside Yorkshire in Lincolnshire) hence the reason it's called Local Saver....... and you might have problems finding details on the internet (I found it on the internet at home but nothing shows up here in Newcastle - maybe it is location based). There are other rules but nothing to onerous if you really want to save some money going spare. :beer:0 -
Thanks for clarifying, I intend to use it as regular saver to replace my own which matures in September. My local branch is quite a small one which I why I needed to make an appointment and they were fully booked from Wednesday to Friday so mine's next week!0

Where are the boundaries drawn for these savings accounts ? Is there a residential time period before you can qualify ?
What are the non resident YBS members going to say about this ?

I have just found details of this account via Google. No mention of a restriction to branches in Yorkshire.

What I have read so far is far from clear!0
