I rolled out 1200 laptops to Head Teachers for the LEA in the mid 1990's.
Several got stolen - one silly woman left it on the back seat of her car in full view, parked on the street, on a council estate, it went in under two minutes. I pointed out that she wouldn't have left £2000 (thats how much they were then) on the back seat in used fivers, so why did she think a laptop worth that was safe?
The killer used to be cracked screens, it was £1500 for a new lcd panel, and the insurance companies wouldn't insure them. Had a few laptops bounce down stairs., not only did it destroy the screen, it would shatter the ceramic HDD. I had on woman berate me because I couldn't get her documents of a HDD that was virtually powder, having made its own way down two flights of stairs.
I guess you didn't earn a merit badge then?How do I add a signature?0 -
Takethis,
A bit computered out but will start the downloading of Windows once my new HDD arrives!!!
The caddy that I bought today - is it of any of use to either of you (Figment or Takethis) ???
richard
I think that you should do it now. It is just a matter of clicking on the link and choosing Save. Takes about ten seconds. Then you can leave it and do something else.
Otherwise, you will be sitting there waiting for it to download 3GB of data when the disc arrives. Not smart.0 -
...and keep the caddy for future use......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
Ok - so I now have my new HDD and a Windows disc kindly supplied by Finlander.
I've put the new HDD into the laptop, powered it up and it comes up with the message
Media test failure, check cable
Exiting Broadcom PXE ROM
No bootable device --- insert boot disk and press any key
Is this what should be expected??? or do I need to put the windows disc in at this stage??
Advices greatly appreciated as feel I 've come so far and don't want to fail at thi slate stage!!
Thanks, richard0 -
