I love honey cake.
I make a non kosher version (sorry gdb, and i cannot even remember what makes it worng atm) that is a Nigella recipe, and it rises like nothing else on earth.
Dh is totally NOT religious, but he has chosen his favortie of the 24 honeys he has in his stash for dipping. These things he marks much like i mark christmas, we like tradition. I did not make honey cake this year. Too much effort. Maybe. You never know, i might feel inspired later. I have a cake tine i have wanted to make a plain cake in for ages, and honey cake would be oerfect.
We are on the back foot for every thing this year. I have also declined our seat at the high table of harvest supper this year, as don't think i am well enough to grit my teeth.
Have a super day gdb and any one else. I did actually buy the first of a christmas gift yesterday ( box of biscuits). Spreading the cost...0 -
We had a great day here in Aus. Mrs Generali does taste tests sometimes for a little extra cash and today hit the jackpot, testing kit kats! A triple choc version and 2 caramel ones. Yummmmmmm.
I got the first lot of spring veggies in the ground: lettuce (4 types), toms, peppers, courgettes, cucumbers, chilli and corn. I should be harvesting my first strawbs in about 3 weeks and my first lettuce a fortnight later.
I was so, so tempted to buy some chooks as the place I went for the seedlings had a very nice chookhouse but I resisted. It's only a matter of time before I yield though.
I also took the Generalissimos for a little bike ride which they love to do.0 -

Gen, get them early in the season.
Do you still have your little dog?0 -
Happy New Year to GDB, the Jewish NPs and any Jewish lurkers.
_party_Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
Always pleased to meet someone who celebrates New Year rather than Christmas! Have a great day, especially to all Jewish NPs/spouses!There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0

I'll have the evening off, whilst DW and DD go to synagogue. There's the traditional blowing of the ram's horn.
We'll have a slightly festive meal, including apple dipped in honey and honey cake that DW has already baked.
Sounds a lovely day. I wasn't aware of the significance of honey (though if I'd have thought about it doh!). Honey cake... mmmm delicious. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? It's FiL's dog which I looked after when I lived with him and she is alive and very well and very happy to see me when we visit.
We're talking to the LL about getting a dog. If he says no then we'll probably buy a place in a year or something: as we negotiated a contract where the rent was cheap in year 1 and higher in year two he'd be a fool to let us exercise our break clause especially as we will have an outdoors dog It's rare for Aussies to let dogs inside their house unless there's a storm: Mrs Gen's Granny only let her dog inside once, during a cyclone that blew all her windows out on one side of the house and even then the dog could only stay in the laundry!0 -

I don't think there is a specific season for Kitkats but I may be wrong.
The orange chunky ones are the best, but alas they are no more.0 -

All of OH's family's dogs live in the house or are allowed in, that's at least 6 different ones I can think of. Maybe it's a Queensland thing! They are mostly little yappy things though, the one exception being a big docile staffy that licks rather too much.0 -

My family in Qld let their dogs in the house too. One thing that they would absolutely not do though is let a dog in the bedroom. They (having read this back I should stress I'm talking about the dogs here) tend to sleep in the laundry room which is in both cases is not quite inside the house as its accessible from both the inside and outside, but then has a lockable door to the house. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing?
