I don't think I could have watched them playing Germany. They did very well to hold on til penalties. I think they used up all their luck!

Too right, we've left looking better than we deserve to look. Time to ditch some of the oldies and build a younger team for the future.

From a purely personal point of view, I hope Spain goes all the way as it means I get more chance to stare at the gorgeous hunk of man-mountainness that is Iker Casillas

    Aye, we're crap at football.

But the thing is, we know we're crap at football. Never had any pretensions of it being otherwise.

We could lose to Leichtenstein and somebody, somewhere, would be describing Scotland as the plucky underdog.

Whereas England field a team of some of the highest paid players in the world, from teams with virtually unlimited budgets, that play against and train with the top footballers the planet has ever seen on a weekly basis.

Yet they couldn't beat an egg.... ;)

Tbh my favourite sports are F1 and athletics. I only watch football for the internationals. It's quite good fun but as you say we always lose. To give Hodgson his due, he's gone from being someone having the rip taken out of him for talking funny and not being Harry, to getting through to the quarters. He's done that without any mention of WAGs or players getting bored sh*tless in their rooms. Bodes well for the future I hope. But in two years time or however long till we get in the next majors, please feel free to bring up this post to show me how wrong I was, as I undoubtedly will be:o.

Thank god tbh. It's always hard to take a loss on penalties, but Italy outplayed us for 100 minutes and overall deserved to win the game. On the flip-side, at least we wont have to watch England get outplayed by Germany again!

Youth system and coaching philosophy in England/UK needs a lot of improvement.
England did well to get to the Quarter-Finals - which is about their level at the moment.

I wasn't sure why Ashley Young was on the pitch til the end, but yes no good hanging onto the past. Thought that Hodgson did a pretty good job with the re all things considered. Just think what it would have been like if we'd not won the group and met Spain!

    Completely agree about Casillas :D
