One of my clients, I dropped my rate 25% and never managed to get it back up with them. I could do that because I had no comparable client who could find out and say "well you do that for them at x".
As I don't know what it is you are selling, could you offer something else to help keep the customer. For example:
* They work with someone more junior at a lower rate, who you can bring in and take a fee from.
* You offer 50% off but for 1 month only and in response for a full price deal for the rest of the year.
* You arrange to school them and a friend for 1 and a quarter times the fee, so they are paying out something like 62.5% of previous single person fee each.
In other words, is there a way of structuring a deal that they would find attractive but which would not upset your other customers?. I sometimes feel awed by the use of working through an idea on the thread. Its always helpful.

Watched Jimmy Carr on 8 out of 10 cats, he stood up to the Mickey taking very well. He could easily have said he employs an accountant and just does what the accountant advises, but he just took complete responsibility.
If my accountant recommend something like that, not only would she probably lose her seat on the coubcil, she'd be made to take he consequences of it. It's her signature that goes on the tax forms, not mine!

Other than public disapproval, there are no consequences. All legal and just an exploited loophole. I'm sure, for the accountant, this is good for business.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
