Over the last few days the internet has been so slow it is unusable.
On my phone it says H or H+ connection but the internet does not work.
This happens in places where previously it worked fine.

Is this the same problem others have been experiencing (with ad server)?
So it is not just me and my phone? Does this mean there is nothing I can do?

I just tried mine and could get reasonable web page response (just!)

I tried a download test and got a fairly sad 2Mbps download and a truly dire 0.09Mbps upload.

My other phone is on O2 business and is showing a weaker signal but same download test, same local server, gave 7.9Mbps download and 2.37Mbps upload.

Although upload data is generally quite small as its only page requests its so slow on Ovivo part the slow response must be how slow its even asking for data.

By the way, not condoning avoiding the adverts, although I can't say its ever shown me anything remotely of interest but I use Opera Classic browser on my phone and I find that when you open it and click a bookmark it goes to the Ovivo ads page but as soon as the first page starts up you can open a second tab and click a bookmark and that will start loading the page you want straight away (you can of course go back to the adverts tab when convenient and buy lots of interesting things should you wish ;) ) This way I hardly get delayed seeing what I want at all especially as my usual sites are bookmarked on the browser start screen.

I dont get adverts on my phone at all. They come via email on my laptop.
I think it is because I have a symbian smartphone rather than an android.
The calls and texts have been reliable since I joined in October.
I rarely use the data but it seems to work fine when I have used it.

The internet adverts are every other page and I have a symbian smartphone so it's not that. (Ovivo internet currently unavailable here at the moment.) :(

I've been having issues as well

    it's almost unusable now

When id does work all I get is the ad page.

I did a speed test and I got 0.04 down and 0.02 up

hope they fix it soon otherwise i'm off to another network
  • My Sony Xperia Mini Pro only lets me select between 2G only and 2G/3G mode. There is no 3G only mode. However in this mode supposedly 3G ought to be used by the phone wherever it is available.

Are we saying that Ovivo forcibly tries to only give customers a 2G connection unless they have a phone that can be set to refuse to connect to the network at all unless the signal offered by the network is 3G???

No, some phone devices lock onto the most stable connection. Where I work that is a 2G connection (4/5 bars on signal gauge) whereas I now constantly have 3G it is on 2/5 bars but I have never had any issues. Before the setting change I was regularly getting 3G with the odd connection on 2G at home.

I guess it is a device specific issue.
  • It is true that some of the data issues listed above could be device related but cheaper MNVO services get a second rate data service when the local mast is busy.
First bite at the cherry goes to business and contract customers on the home network so if you're a Vodafone contract customer you will get priority over Ovivo customers and this makes a difference if your local mast is almost at full capacity.
Calls and texts shouldn't be affected as they get a higher priority anyway as they are more profitable but the data services will always be the first to suffer, which is why people in London seem to report more problems than some in rural areas.

Funny you should mention that, I was terminated by Ovivo yesterday and I put in my new Vodafone contract sim and there is a massive difference in speed when loading pages, I thought as Ovivo was voda then it would be the same but now the pages load instantly on my nexus 4 where before the bar along the top would take ages to load.

I'm glad they terminated me in the end, much better browsing experience and for not much more money.

Did those of you who were 'terminated' get refunds of unused credit?
