This unfortunately only applies to football tickets, where there are serious crime and disorder motivations for banning ticket sales.

Having said DCMS (Department for Culture, Media and Sport) have been looking at the ticket touting issue for some time now with a working party formed from members of the industry.

Touts were represented on this working party until their representative was removed due to the unconstructive nature of the contributions. Consensus is moving towards the banning of the resale of tickets which is what the CPA (Concert Promoters Association) and NAA (National Arenas Association) - two of the biggest players want. Despite Tessa Jowell having stated that she is reluctant to push forward primary legislation (although this doesn't of course rule out the use of secondary legislation) it seems increasingly likely that the problem of touting will require a legislative solution, particularly in light of the recent insolvency of Ticket Tout.com.

Legislation will almost certainly be passed to prevent the touting of ticket sales for the Olympics and it may be that extra provisions to cover touting of tickets for cultural events are included particularly as there will be an 'Olympics of Culture' running alongside the games.

It's only a matter of time before there's a ban on selling tickets. I'm building up sales in other areas to prepare for that day. Meanwhile though, whilst there's nothing illegal in what I'm doing, I will carry on selling 'em....end of ( as judderman62 would say ;) )

I don't have to flatter myself, others do that for me. I earned £1500 this month ( yes, AFTER tax ), have over 1500 sales and 100% feedback. Having worked up from selling the odd item from my loft to become a self emplyed businesswoman ( yes, that's bus-ness-woman ) , I think I've done rather well thank you !

In what part of the country does that pass as a lot of money then??

Well it's the touts that have shot themselves in the foot. If you hadn't got so greedy, the government would never have had to start looking at the issue seriously.

I'm all for a ban on touting - it's a distortion of the market and has very little to do with capitalism at all. If it did have anything to do with market forces then it would be tolerated.

Ultimately it's also about power and influence. The touts have none while the live entertainment and culture industries has lots. The fact that no one likes the touts will count against you as well because no one is going to fight your corner when it comes to the crunch.
  • I just don't believe it! My tickets are really good seats (£71 each) and they only reached just under face value (but I had put a reserve of £100 each on them which would mean I made a profit of just under £30 each. I thought I would try this as they were reaching ridiculous prices on Friday.

Then half an hour later 2 x £45 tickets sold for £134!!

Maybe I should wait until 2 weeks before and try and sell then?

There are some ticket agencies on the internet selling my tickets for at least double.

Though I don't approve of touting, it would be a terrible waste for your tickets to be unsold and empty seats to be left at the gig, so I'll offer my tuppenceworth. As others have mentioned, you're not allowed to sell items you don't have in hand on eBay unless you can guarantee delivery within 30 days, so if that doesn't apply, maybe that's part of your problem. If you have a low feedback score, buyers might not trust you, whereas they tend to be more trusting of big ticket agencies for some reason.
Also, you said you put a reserve of £100 each - do you mean you were trying to sell them separately? In general, tickets on eBay sell much better in pairs. I got a single ticket for an A-ha concert (from a fan who had planned to go but couldn't make it) for less than face value, whereas pairs of tickets were selling for close to twice their face value.

Indeed...it's £18000 a year, assuming that income is steady over a period of a year.

I wouldn't consider this particularly good earnings at all...pretty pitiful in fact.
