I can't believe my Police tickets only reached face value on ebay

I just don't believe it! My tickets are really good seats (£71 each) and they only reached just under face value (but I had put a reserve of £100 each on them which would mean I made a profit of just under £30 each. I thought I would try this as they were reaching ridiculous prices on Friday.

Then half an hour later 2 x £45 tickets sold for £134!!

Maybe I should wait until 2 weeks before and try and sell then?

There are some ticket agencies on the internet selling my tickets for at least double.

Have you checked for the following things:
    1. listed in the right category
    2. title similar to those that did sell
    3. clear description - no missing vital information
    4. good feedback score
    5. accept paypal - have buyer protection
    6. clear payment and postage terms

These are the sorts of things that as a buyer are important to me - either I wouldn't find the item whilst searching (if top 2 not quite right), or something in the other 4 might put me off and I think that the other sellers are more reliable.

    Just some possibilities.

No savvy buyer will be buying tickets yet as AFAIK (and please correct me if I'm wrong) tickets are not yet in hand.

Ebay prohibit the sale of any items where the guaranteed delivery date is more than 30 days away. Any buyer risking money now on something they can't get for a couple of months is foolish at best.

Also there have been discussions on other boards about some of this years concerts being overpriced. Maybe the 'true' fans bought what they wanted leaving the rest of us who will only bother going if we can pick up a bargain pair of tickets nearer the time?

  • i thought it was illegal to sell tickets for more than their face value. It certainly is on the continent. I saw a tv program about ticket touts during the french open. Anyone selling tickets at a profit were arrested and the tickets ripped up.

I sold tickets for someone who was ill - oads of tickets going for less than half price were going unsold so we did not hold out much hope. We explained that we was selling as one of the people going was ill - this is why we sold - did not overinflate the price and jsut asked for face value plus booking/selling fees in the total price and they sold within 8 hours.

People will NOT buy tickets from you if they think you are a tout - which you obviosuly are to be buying to sell on for profit - so tehre you are lesson learned. BTW - you are supposed to have the tickets within 30 days to pass onto the customer, I trust you will not be breaking that policy when you sell.

I can't believe you came here looking for sympathy. What then happens if the ticket companies revoke the tickets like Kylie did? I hope you like the Police and can get there on the night!!

Maybe there wasn't a rush for them because many people would rather go to the dentist than listen to Police. £71?? The world's gone mad.

You could argue that of many bands. Dont forget the Police were pretty much the biggest band in the world around 1983, all those teenagers from then are now thirty somethings with disposable incomes.
  • I will be going anyway as I bought 4.

As I was lucky enough to get the chance to buy any, I decided to buy an extra 2 and try my luck on ebay. Hundreds of thousands do it, so why should I not give it a try?

I know it can go either way because I have bought tickets for less than face value in the past, and also paid a lot more than face value.

At the end of the day, you are not forcing people to pay your price - they bid for it and know exactly what they are doing and how much they are willing to pay.

I would rather buy tickets from ebay now, up to a certain price, as you can pick your seats - if you buy on the day of release you have a chance of getting seats right at the back of venues which I am not interested in.

Face the facts, so many people have jumped on the ticket touting band wagon that there is now, quite often, a reasonable chance of getting a bargain via ebay, especially if you wait your time. It is quite often only one off gigs that make a profit for the modern day touts. I personally believe the ticket agencies have seen the price some people have been prepared to pay, raised their ticket prices and also added extra gigs, take Madonna as an example - £150 for top price tickets (excluding booking fee). I wouldn't be surprised if 10% of tickets for these bigger gigs are now changing hand via ebay.
Another gripe - I don't think the 'quick, grab it now' section of this site helps - people listing advanced sale links.
As someone who likes to attend gigs, I am happy to pick up the bargains.
But hey, don't come looking for sympathy - you'll find that in the dictionary between sh*t and syphilis

I wouldnt buy concert tickets off Ebay far in advance, unless the seller had tickets in hand already to be sent out.
Otherwise if anything goes wrong you wont be covered under the buyer protection. And who knows in 4 or 5 months time, the seller may no longer be registered with ebay and has run off with your cash.

I have bought front row tickets before within last 2 weeks before a concert, for a very reasonable price...
