Not following the whole thread just pointing out the pricing for the S3 is way out. I've seen comments that the OP wants to keep the phone and sell it after the iphone is released not seen them say anywhere they will sell for recycling at a lower price than the phones worth though, so grabbing a price to throw at the OP from a site that pays out a maximum of £250 is a little pointless if the phone is worth more and will be when the iphone is released. Micro sim isn't an issue either S3 is a micro sim phone.

    iPhone's are better.
    In your opinion.

Would you buy Samsung S3 then wait for months to get new updates.
You shouldn't buy a phone based on what updates you might get,I always buy my phones based on whether it does the job I want it to do at the time I buy it. If I get some updates, it's a bonus.

Apple only do frequent updates because of the things that are missing in the first place, the same could be said of Android. What was the last truly revolutionary feature on an iPhone?

I think the iPhone 5 will be much better then others and may have one or two killer functions for others to copy.
Such as? Apple seem to copy others more than they get copied.

But that's exactly what that OP wants to do! Get his hands on an S3 now and recycle/sell it in 4/5 months when the iPhone 5 comes out.

He's using flawed logic for the simple reason that he can't guarantee what price he'll get for the phone.

Also, he'll have to contact the mobile operator and ask them to provide him with a micro sim if/when he buys the iPhone 5, at which time they may want him to go on an iPhone tariff?

My initial query was whether people thought it made sense to keep and use the phone, then sell it later, which I understand was not so much flawed, but would be a big gamble.

The thought in my mind, kind of migrated a little to the possibility of (at the time when the S3 was selling on ebay for £450+) taking out a contract on the S3, selling it immediately, and banking the money which I'll later use to buy the iPhone. That way, I had a guaranteed sale of the S3 at £450. which, by my calculation, does work out as a profit.*

by profit, I mean cheaper than the iPhone contract, which I WILL get otherwise.

Are you sure that's a handset problem ;-)

One factor to weigh in is the warranties - a secondhand phone (even if a few months old) may not be covered by the manufacturers warranty (and certainly not under SoGA) to a second person. Now, in fairness, people are stupid and buy secondhand phones without considering this, but it may be worth factoring into your calculations?

If sold on eBay though, that's a buyer concern...not a seller concern. I could always ask for a gift receipt when I get the phone?

Depends on the warranty, many say original purchaser, that means if I bought it for you as a present and gave it to you the same day I bought it the warranty would still not be valid for you, only me.
