Most valuable phone to sell right now

The point is... I want an iPhone 5, but I need a phone in the interim.
iPhone contracts are more than the contracts for other phones. I would be paying less monthly for, say, a galaxy 3... Meaning the resale price of the phone + the money I save on monthly subscription, covers the cost of the iPhone 5.
Then, I can go back to PAYG after 2 years.
What part can't you see as sense? Hopefully in 5 months time your desired handset will be available on the market, few can see sense in your plan of taking out a contract with a view to selling the handset later on, it is probably the most expensive option.0 -

I'm looking at TOTAL COST OF OWNERSHIP.
If the iPhone is £100 up front, with £35p/m contract (likely price) the total cost of ownership is £940
Samsung Galaxy S3 is £0 up front, and £34 a month. Over two years, that's £816
Over the period of 2 years, the Samsung Galaxy S3 is £124 cheaper.
Put simply... If I sell the S3 for £376, adding the £124 (where the 2year plan is already cheaper... ) It comes to £500 (the cost of the iPhone.)
Once my contract is up, I'd revert to PAYG.
Being hypothetical -
I can't see how (as long as I can sell the S3 for £376+) I am out of pocket?0 -

You will have to go ahead with your plan, I do not recall a post in the thread that suggests it is a wise idea, me I purchase my handsets outright, if the IP5 appeared to meet my needs then I would just purchase it, at nearly £400 I would not entertain a private pre owned handset, it is that you will need to consider when you come to sell as that will have a large factor on if the asking or sold price is realistic.0 -
You won't get £376 for the phone when you come to sell it so your plan if flawed imo.
Also, have you factored in the money you'll spend on Android apps that you won't be able to use when you switch to ios?
Just wait, it's 5 months at the most until the new iPhone.
Edit: O2 recycle are offering £250 for S3 at the minute, that will only go down between now and the release of the next iPhone.0 -
Here is a thought?
Why don't you just get the iphone 4 on the best deal you can and enjoy it. After all as soon as the 5 is released they will be working on the 6 then the 7 then the 8. You will never and can never make money on swap ing phones so often.Happiness, Health and Wealth in that order please!:A0 -

Trouble is some want to have the latest edition, and it seems the OP does not want to buy outright, after all who will want to buy a 2nd hand 4s for I don't know £400 (if rumour of the resale values are true) when for around £100 more a brand new latest edition sim free can be had, it's a no brainer for those that buy outright and to change handset, the real value of the latest will need to be considered.0 -
From resell value, iPhones hold their price.
Even the iPhone 3GS is going for around £160 on eBay.

Where else if you look at the top Android phone HTC One X, released for £500, after around 3 months already down to £420 on Amazon. £26 drop a month for first three months.0 -

Perhaps this time you are missing the debate? Does the OP buy a 'top' handset to resell later or stick with what he has until the IP5 is released?
What is up with the current handset that won't last another few months?
The debate is not about Android vs iOS right now0
