The sign is unambiguous about what the sign purports to be about.
It is ambiguous as it does not say "including Bank Holidays" or "excluding Bank Holidays". It has nothing to say on the matter of Bank Holidays so you are not entitled to make any assumption about those on the basis of the sign.

Indeed so the OP could have been ordering outside of the times which the advertised price applied.

What the sign is 100% clear about is that the price for the specified meal is £5.95 from Monday to Saturday. And you are therefore absolutely entitled to take that to mean exactly what it says.
Relevant only if they had asked for the meal specifying they wanted the one advertised on that sign.
Otherwise why would the waiter not expect the customer to be ordering from the menus in front of them?

If it is ambiguous then it is unfair therefore it would fall foul of unfair terms in a contract if that ambiguity was used against the consumer..

When is a carvery not a carvery?

When is a carvery not a carvery?

A carvery meal is not a single item on a plate, so the price may vary depending on what components you choose and how much of each you want.

Every carvery i have ever visited has a single price for the whole meal, i have never known items to be charged separately. Thats what appeals to most people.

No, it's not ambiguous in the slightest. If the company wants to do something different on a bank holiday, it has to say so. The sign was incorrect, not ambiguous.

To be honest, this is a lesson learned. Toby Carvery is just a scam really.

All their vegetables are bought in and some of the meat is just soya and fat pumped with water to make it look like a proper roast. If you fall for their trickery, you deserve everything you get.

You mean they don't grow the vegetables in their own garden round the back? Shock horror!

And their meat is vegetarian? Yes, of course.

Enjoy our great value carvery this bank holiday

Don't forget that Toby in Kent is open over the Jubilee holiday, serving up a succulent four-roast carvery with all the accompaniments you've come to expect. Our four roast carvery is just £9.49 on Sunday and Bank holiday Monday and only £5.95 on Jubilee Day, so grab your friends and family and drop by for a Great British roast dinner just the way you like it.

Ive seen many a supermarket say 24 hours but they close on a sunday night.
Ive seen takeaways that say "quality fish n chips"
Ive seen pubs that say friday night is party night
Ive seen a sign that advertises "happy hour"
Ive seen "2 for the price of 1" offers where the original price was inflated and then reduced to look like a saving.
How is Battersea dogs home called a home? when they try to find homes for the dogs?
Why is a "night on the tiles" used in conversation. Nobody ever spends their night actually on tiles do they, just like youve never seen anyone paint the town red.

Could i claim the cost of my drinks back from the pub plus loss of enjoyment if "happy hour" is not happy and "party night" wasnt like a party?
Could i also make Tesco/Asda open for me as the sign says 24 hours.?

If the sign outside was the only indication of price it would be different.
The prices were clearly displayed in the restaurant in a durable form.
Ignorance on the OP's side counts for nothing.

Once in the restaurant the prices and menu were available for ALL customers to see.

If i went abroad and drove on the wrong side of the road because i didnt know better it would still be MY fault for not checking first. I wouldnt expect someone to have to keep telling me.

And by your "logic", you cannot make any assumptions if you go there in June, or September, have Purple hair, bring a dog, or if you are called Brian. You are essentially saying the sign means nothing.

You are clearly wrong, the sign is crystal clear, and makes no exclusions. The deal is Mon - Sat, end of story.

Interesting, a bank holiday is different price to the public holiday price.

Relevant how? You clearly miss the point completely, reread Azari posts.
