When I had a cleaner my DD begged me to let her do it for that money.
She was too unreliable so I didn't, but would your children be interested in chores for money?
Now I'm on my own the house stays tidy!0 -
When I cancelled the last cleaner, I did offer the children the opportunity to earn pocket money for doing the jobs. Two things go against that now.....one is that they don't do it, the other is that they know any money they get goes straight back into the ski fund, so they don't get the money anyway!!
Part of the reason for having a cleaner anyway, is giving me the discipline to keep it tidy in the meantime, which I wouldn't have if I were giving the job to DD!!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. I don't have a problem with you having a cleaner. When I am at work I have one comes in for two hours a week and boy does she make that two hours count!

What about paying the kids to do some of the housework?
I think you are doing the right thing if the kids cant do it. Life is too short to get stressed about cleaning!Debt Free - done

I don't think I can justify or afford more than a couple of hours a week, but a cleaner will be able to do more in 2 hours than I can do in a whole day! As long as I find a cleaner who is not addicted to MSE that is.........would hate to be paying someone who would get sidetracked by my laptop :rotfl:Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. Absolutely brilliant idea! I got an ironing lady when I went back to work and wouldn't consider stopping for anything! I think on it as 2 hours a week that I would be wasting ironing that I could be using on much more productive things. Go for it!0

See above - been there done that and seen no improvement in the state of my house!!
It won't be happening though until I get paid from the new job - just to make sure that I can afford it!!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
Yep, I'm with the crowd on this one - getting a cleaner is very dfw if it frees you up. Look at me, for example: I don't have a cleaner, but I do have sky. £16 a month would really help my books balance, but I don't stop it. And I won't! And I still keep buying Stargate DVDs to replace the videos I just chucked out, even if they only cost £2 each from the 2nd hand shop!2023: the year I get to buy a car0

If you're working full time (and no doubt still doing extras in the evenings and weekends) and you hate cleaning then go for a cleaner I say - esp with 5 of you in the house!
I think it really does depend on family circumstances - my in laws still have a cleaner even though children are at Uni/left home. She does ironing and puts the hoover round - something which 2 people (ok who do work full time) should be able to sort out no problem I think - OH and I manage it fine - but anyone that's one for another day.
Ski sale money is great too. HOpe you have a good time at college.Initial Mortgage January 2024 - £160,000
