What a great idea Hypno ...I think that may work for you....it's so easy to while away the hours but seems easier to get things done when written down.0

Right, war has been declared on the disorganisation that is my whole life!
The diary has been bought and lists have been made - OH has been told that I am in serious danger of becoming anal about the whole thing, but he has 2 choices - put up or shut up!!
So, there will be plenty of coffee opportunities, and plenty of time on MSE still - I am not after all work and no play, more about getting the balance right before I drown in this mess that I have created around me!

Good luck Hypno!! Hope it works for you - and if it does, send me some tips.
One thing to write in your new diary: go running. I'm so glad I took it up recently. My twice weekly running nights are my biggest treat and everything seems bearable on those days. Good luck Hypno! I love giving myself giving myself a kick up the backside and pushing myself along with the force. Let us know how you get along xDebt free since 2014 - now saving for a mortgage deposit :heart2:
This time I'm on top of it! We live and learn :coffee:0 -

Me too, me too! Good to know there's other peeps at the same stage as me
I spent loads of time on my snowball spreadsheet (I had to make my own because the one I found was a bit lacking for my situation) and I'm getting a bit obsessive about the whole thing - next I'm working on cutting back all my bills and after that I'm planning my weekly menu (trying to get healthy and fit too) .. but I think the obsessiveness can only be a good thing for the time being... hopefully I won't stay so anal tho heh .. you're right, balance is the key
I know I've passed the point of no return and by that I won't be sliding back into old habits. This phase in my life has been long coming. Official DFW Nerd #620 :cool:Proud to be dealing with my debts!0 -
Morning guys! Thanks for being so supportive about the diary thing - I really am going to give it a good go. Certainly I don't think things can get a lot worse here, so it has to be worth a try. I have got a few half hearted things in there for the rest of this week and the weekend, but things start in a stronger way on Monday when OH gets back to work, which I am seeing as a trial run for 1st September when things will be as organised as possible, because the student arrives on 2nd Sept and I start work on 3rd!
It doesn't just include things like housework, admin and work, but for example I haven't met with some friends for coffee for months and months - when I was working it was easier to arrange to meet at lunchtimes, now we never seem to catch each other - always leaving messages on answerphones saying "when are you about, we must meet up" type thing. Also, making time to go and see family has to be an entry in there - sad, but true. Again it is not that we don't want to see them, more that we don't make time to make the journey.
So.....up to 9am every day is def MSE time....don't see why I should change that! On the money front, yesterday we did our mystery shop which was a free day out, which was good, but the tyres on the car cost almost £90 all in which had to go on OH credit card.
Also, I paid for a brown wheelie bin - round here you have to pay £40 a year to get a garden waste bin. I have so much waste, I compost what I can but some things are not compostable, and they are building up in a pile so I finally seccumbed to the bin, so quite a high spend day yesterday, but things that really needed to be done.
On a good note, I got a list of charges (only 7 of them) from an old credit card yesterday, so have sent off a request for a refund. It won't be a lot but it will certainly help.
Hope you all have a good day!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
Hi hypno! Hi all!
I'm curious about what you'll put in the new diary that you wouldn't put in the existing diaries (is that right from a few days ago, that you have 2 diaries on the go already?). My diary is a funny old mix. I have bookings from clients on the left hand side, plus times when I'm doing my finance practice, and things I'm doing at the weekend generally take up the whole spread of the diary, left to right. Things that are booked all year round - the groups I run with my partner, our meetings, they're on the right hand side (just an initial, to let me know who's doing what when). Most of the right hand side is taken up with a daily OR weekly to do list, which gets ticked and then crossed through. Holidays are a long thin line down the left hand side. Big weekly things, events I want to go to, are often up in the title bit. Its all just evolved, really - and nowadays I make big use of tippex in there, it can get very confusing.
The only other thing I have is a trading diary - news announcements and possible trades, plus a few notes on finances and whatnot. But it doesn't have anything other than that in. I can only cope with having stuff in one place - mind you, you have so much on the go, especially with being a mummy taxi, I can understand you wanting more than one!
Best of luck with it all, anyway - maybe you could make a post of what goes in which diary? If you're not sure, a lot of time is going to be lost co-ordinating. Or have I got the wrong idea completely, and this new one is going to be replacing t'others? I'm a simple soul organisationally, I really am LOL2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
I'm very interested in the diary too! Perhaps you could scan a sample page and upload it - you too Karmacat (though yours sounds scary!).
I have a work diary where I write meetings I have to go to and deadlines. And a family diary where I write things the children are doing and family engagements. But I feel the need for a hypnoesque hour-by-hour one detailing everything.
Let us know if it helps hypno and I might copy you when we get back from holiday in early Sept. I will be working in London 2 days/week from end sept and OH working out of the home 4 days from Oct so we will need to get a bit more organised than hitherto.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Good morning Hypno,
I know when I had students and had to fit in working as well it was difficult!
The thing that worked for me was having a blitz on Saturday morning when everyone mucked in and helped. Everyone stripped and remade their own beds, OH liked ironing (don't iron much anyway, but odd things need it), one son was good at vacuuming, all clothes had to be brought down for washing. I'd do the bits like bathroom and kitchen.
Daily routine was mainly every evening make sure the kitchen was clear/wiped, table set for breakfast the next morning, and packed lunches ready in the fridge.
Morning routine was clean up after they'd gone, quick wipe up in the kitchen. Check the bathroom too (had a basket of cleaning materials there ready, so didn't waste time fetching).
I did when I had time do the extras you miss, like vacuuming and turning matresses etc.. But basically everything stayed OK, and the kitchen and bathroom were kept spotless which with paying guests is I think important. Odd bits of dust in places didn't worry me too much, just did a quick wipe when spotted. It's a family home not a show house.
Hope you find a system that works for you.0 -
