Hi Seaxwyn! I had not thought really that other kids were still at school! I hope they enjoy their last day.

At least if you have paid a plasterer, things must be looking a little more presentable at home, which must be a good thing!

Re bank charges for OH - all he has had to do is sign the letters. I wrote the cheque for £10 requesting the statements, went through them when they arrived to do the calculations, wrote the letters and just thrust them under his nose, with a pen, to get him to sign them. I took them to the post office, and I opened the responses when they landed on the door step.

If I left anything to him, we would still be courting, and living with our respective parents...........so getting him to do his own bank charges would be nigh on impossible!!

    HI Hypno,

Glad to here that you got some of the charges back form Barclays.

You made me feel really hungrey when you said that you went to zaks the other nite i take it the one in norwich is nice as the one in Great Yarmouth is horrible we tend to go to fatso,s.

Hope you get everything sorted as you deserve some good luck.

    Take care

    James

Hi Hypno, Unfortunately the thing my OH hates more than anything is being bossed or nagged - that and someone else opening his post. But he will get round to it. HSBC even gave him a leaflet on how to reclaim charges from them!

The house will look 1000 times better when the replastering and redecorating is done so I don't mind paying (much). The insurance will cover most of it anyway. I just hope the money isn't delayed - they said they'd pay into the account from which we pay the insurance, however unfortunately OH closed that account last week!

I haven't been to Zaks in Yarmouth since my sister threw up in there 25 years ago :rotfl: The ones in Norwich have always been ok though and with the vouchers that we had, and some determination not to have a scrummy pudding, we got away with a fairly cheap meal!

Right.....I am going to allow myself until 10am on here, then I am going to get my backside into gear and do some work. Decision made!

If it is any encouragement to OH, Seaxwyn, the ones we got back today were from HSBC. They didn't cash the £10 cheque, got statements out to us instantly and always replied well within the timescales, so dead easy really.

Can you get in touch with the insurance to make sure they don't send the money to an old bank account - you don't want it sitting in a suspense account somewhere while the bank try to allocate it.

Finally, how's work going - have you got a space in the shed yet?

That's really encouraging to know about HSBC - thanks. I'll tell him that and start nagging about bank charges as soon as he's given me the information I need to renew the tax credits claim...

I am pretty sure OH is in touch with the insurance co about sending the money to his new bank - I hope so anyway - that's been another thing on my daily nag list

No I haven't got a space in the shed yet and hopes are receding. Meanwhile everything displaced by the replastering is piled up around me in the room where I work. So things have got worse, not better. But my mum is going to have the children tomorrow and Thursday so that's a relief. I will leave the shed thing until the work in the house is complete.

Glad you had a nice meal out the other night. I'm sure we appreciate these treats much more now we're DFWs. I can remember so many meals out that I rather resented at the time as they were going on my credit card!

Great news on the bank charges - whilst it's not as much as the £4500, £80 isn't to be sneezed at!

How are you feeling this morning? Glad you've decided to claim for personal injury through the insurance as it sounds like you're still in quite a bit of pain.

I'm almost envious of the reclaiming bank charges business... however, I keep telling myself I'd have had to have paid them in the first place. Never have, thank goodness. Still.... slight case of reclaim envy!

I've got some dry runs at matched betting on my to-do list today! I think I'm going to do it by going to the thread where people post their tips and see if I understand them, rather than looking at the sites without any guide. Any other tips for dry runs, hypno, rather than actual doing it? Of course, if the dry runs work out, the next action is opening a separate current account for it - I've read about that somewhere, and it certainly seems to make sense, otherwise your own current a/c would seem to get very overcrowded, especially important since thats the one that the accountant sees, and I'd be paying them to understand it, not a good idea!

Have a nice easy morning - for the next 26 mins anyway, till 10am, lol!

HI karmacat. I'm glad I'm not the only one with reclaim envy! I have only ever incurred one bank charge, and I was so incensed at the time that I phoned up and reclaimed it, long before hearing about this site or other people doing the same thing!

My OH and I are the complete opposites though, and when he gets round to it he will have a large amount to claim. He incurred well over £100 bank charges last month alone!
