Hypno's kick up the backside debt diary....

Hi KC,
when I was a lawyer, I had to keep timesheets. Every hour was split into 10 units of 6 mins and you had to account for each unit - even if you went to the toilet you had to mark it down as "personal time". At the end of each day our timesheets were handed in and all activity logged onto a system for billing clients. If we had not done 5 and a half hours of chargeable time by the end of the day, words were said.....woe betide you if you had several days where you had too much "personal time". When I was pregnant, and had morning sickness, I was scared to hand in my timesheet!
I vowed when I left that I would never do anything similar again - a list of intended tasks at the beginning of the day is about as far as I go now!
I hated this aspect of the job - by the end, even at home, I was counting things like doing the washing up in 6 minute units. I have not worn a watch in the 11 years since I left the profession!
End of hijack!

6 minute units or part thereof :rotfl: So if something takes you 7 mins to do - it is 2 units!! No wonder legal fees are so big, and the partners are so much richer than the poor staff doing the actual work!!!
Oh well, I will stick to what I do now - much more satisfying, although I will never get richSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -

I think timesheets are fairly standard when you're doing work that is billed to clients. I've had to fill them at PR agencies, only the units were 15 minutes.
It is annoying to have to do but I can't see how else you'd charge clients if you have multiple people working on multiple accounts.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Oh I didn't mind doing the timesheets for the chargeable time to bill clients - I agree with you there. It was having to mark on the timesheet how much time I had spent in the toilet, or making coffee. If you got caught up in a conversation with anyone that you could not bill, you had to write it on your timesheet to justify yourself at all times. That was the bit I didn't like at all!
I hope your car boot sale goes well, Seaxwyn. Here's hoping for lots of rich customers.....:DSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -

Completely agree!! I walked to Court the other day and it was 43 mins so I had to record 48   Hate time recording, means I cannot effectively skive - so unfair
Allegedly I have to do 7 hours time recording a day - god knows when I am allowed to wee, talk, sneeze, post on MSE and match bet0 -

Very unreasonable employers you have there. Surely it is civil liberty stuff to allow you to post on MSE and match bet during work time
Of course, weeing, talking and sneezing are to be done at lunchtime, but the other stuff is FAR more pressing.....Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
Right, a beautiful day, and I really should have been up early and making a few quid at a car boot sale. But the energy to sort things and get ready deserted me yesterday and I am thoroughly ashamed of myself. Seaxwyn - I hope you do well at yours today.
Yesterday was a NSD so that was good, although I need a few bits from the shop today for the week. Also did the tesco car insurance quote for the 500 free points - thanks :money: and a mystery shop - only £6 for the shop but all money in the pot!
Today we have something ending on ebay later this morning . Currently standing at £39.99 so happy with that and if it makes any more, then all well and good. These last couple of weeks we will have made about £250 after fees etc which will really make the difference to the spreadsheet. Need to get something else on there soon - keep the momentum going.
The jam jar thing seems to be working too - into the second week of the month and there is still cash in there :rotfl: and the bank accounts are not over their limits :T For us, that is a pretty good state of affairs:DSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. Hi Hypno
Glad it is a good start to the day - don't feel bad about not being at a car boot, best to go when you have the heart and energy to do it as they can get pretty boring
Who do you do your mystery shopping with? I have read loads of posts re doing it but always dismissed it as I didn't think I'd have enough time to do it with work, but as I work in Manchester I wonder whether there would be more flexibility for me to do it - what does it involve?
Sorry for all the questions.....0 -
Hi hypno, hi all
Hypno, thanks for your post (and the discussion that followed) on timing - you know, you *do* look like superwoman to me, I do also see your posts about a lazy day and not having done anything - that just means that you're not a Timelord, it doesn't mean that you're not superwoman!
I'm off on holiday for a few days, but from July 16, when I get back to work, I am really going to get my act together. I think I have to think of working a 6 day week - the 6th day (spread throughout the week, if you know what I mean) is about moneysaving, matched betting, finally getting into ebay, and the like. The interest rate rise really means I have to.
Have a good day - if you're not at a car boot today, maybe you can sort things out for the next one? I've seen you give that advice yourself, you know!!;)2023: the year I get to buy a car0
