DS has said that he is happy to forgo Christmas presents, so one option is to ask everyone who would normally buy presents for them to make a cash contribution instead. Problem is that this then asks them to reveal how much cash they would feel obliged to spend, which may be different from the real amount they would spend if they are like me and have bought stuff throughout the year in the sales etc IYSWIM!

Or another approach would be to work out how much it would cost for him to go skiing, divide that by the number of people who would normally buy him a present, and ask them well beforehand if they would be prepared to donate £x instead of a present. Even if they wouldn't normally spend that much, if they realised that was what he wanted most they might be prepared to do it.

I'm very glad my children don't have expensive interests but I sympathise with your dilemma as I'm gutted I can't provide so many of the things I'd like to - travel mostly, but looking ahead driving lessons, support through university etc etc.

One of my DDs has been selected to join a class two years older than her to do Italian GCSE in one year - such a girl surely deserves to be taken to Italy. No chance.

Morning all, lots of extra working going on in the hypno household today - I have clients this morning which I don't normally see, and DH is working at his second job this afternoon/evening again, plus has an hour or so overtime to put down this morning at his usual job. All good for the spreadsheet.....

However, I have just realised that my client diary for next week is very quiet - I can't believe I have overlooked the fact! I have a good week lined up the following week so I can:

    - panic that there is no money coming in next week
    - use it as an admin week - do all my mouldy old paperwork which will in the process include marketing for new clients
    - have a week off, fly to the Seychelles for a few days, eat drink and be merry and come back next weekend ready to face a full diary.

    Decisions, decisions

Hmmmmm.......I suppose in the sense that it seems to pull even more paperwork to it, then yes, in terms of me being attracted to it.....let me think for just a moment. Nope, sorry!!

I hope you get your form done today. Set yourself some sort of reward for when it has been done. Fortnight in Mauritius, Prada handbag, Jimmy Choos, that sort of thing.

However, Sea, at the end of the day, despite all these wonders being available to me, whenever I choose, a few mins sit down, peace and quiet with a cup of coffee is all that I really crave. I am sure you are the same....
